Noble replaces Bailey in box

Saying that, if they have hired someone on a full time basis to replace David Noble as list manager, where will he go when Dean Bailey is ready to return to work?

Then he takes over Noble's role, freeing Noble up to move in to the position of Footy Ops manager.

All this talk about who should and shouldn't be employed full time based on how much time it takes to do their job is ignoring the possibility that several people will be working above and beyond what they normally would, extra hours, to fill in. Something you can do for a year under these circumstances but not something anyone would be willing to do on a permanent basis. I expect Noble will be putting in some very long hours.

Also a lot of these jobs strike me as more of a you never stop thinking about it, but your not necessarily physically doing something every minute of every day.

They are being paid to know everything about the game plan, the club whatever, there would be a lot of things that everyone would know a lot of. If its 30% more work for one person that doesn't mean its 30% of a full time position for someone starting from scratch.

Another probably minor thing is that bringing someone from outside the club into the coaches box for just the year before Bailey returns or we can truly go after the best candidate who is actually working at another club is probably not a great idea as far as sending someone away with a lot of knowledge from our box, especially if we had a decent year.

Not to mention that the list of outside candidates you get is likely to be poor, especially those who are currently based interstate when you tell them "It's a 9 month contract, after that you're either gone, or re-assigned elsewhere".

People can yell "hire Voss" or whatever, but I doubt you capture his interest when you tell him there's a chance he won't last long in the role. Until they fully know the prognosis on Bailey (or he decides to resign), they're smart to keep it in-house. I'm sure they've developed a list of suitable replacements if the worst happens, but hopefully it doesn't get that far.
 
I would suggest that the list manager is not required on game days? Look, it's not an ideal situation, but we have to manage it in the most compassionate way possible. Yes we are a business, but god dammit, when did people stop being important? I have no doubt the Club is assessing the situation constantly, but very mindful of the impact on Dean should we "replace" him permanently with someone from outside.

No, we have to handle it in the way that best helps us be successful; that's the priority, and it doesn't preclude us from being compassionate at the same time.

He's not a 12 year old Jenn. This is a multi million dollar sporting organization, we need to start acting like it. It doesn't mean we can't be compassionate or caring, but we need to make decisions which makes success the priority, not being nice. Bailey would understand that - and that happening doesn't mean he's completely cut off and isolated from the club.

Sando's match day coaching last year was very patchy, I think it's vitally important that we give him strong support in that area. I rate Noble, but I don't think this is the best use of him, and would like to know what other candidates were interviewed or considered.

Interviews ? Candidates? Come on ..... This is the AFC;)

We cant sack Dean, its actually against the law. We cant even move him sideways because he could sue the club for breach of contract. I doubt he is on peanuts as well. Dean would have to step down on his own accord with no pressure from the club. Its a tough break but we will have to ride out the season with what we have got.

Noble has been an assistant coach and coached in his own right. He will be a good addition to the box and has enough clout not to just be a yes man.

How he manages that and list manager will be interesting and difficult. We can't afford either role to be neglected. I will put me hand up if need be.
 
I love your "it's all very clear" approach. Seriously I'm really disappointed that people continue to be looking for the negative angle in every situation that arises. That says far more about you than the capability of the Club. The Club has absolutely done the correct thing in these very difficult circumstances. They've shown Dean he still has a role to come back to (something to work towards?), but they've also provided Sando with extra support in the box on match days.
I take great umbrage with comments that Dean needs the job to have something to fight for. You're ****ing kidding me. He has a family ffs.

Everything is important when you are fighting for your life. What might seem insignificant to you in the overall scheme of things, becomes a massive thing for someone who may lose it all. We've had an employee fighting for his life over the last 12 months. He was 6 years in remission before he relapsed (we supported him through that treatment too). The fact that we kept him on, made provisions for him (kept paying him), took so much pressure off him. It was one less thing he had to worry about. We paid for him for 12 months and then found a way to use his super benefits to cover his monthly wage. We didn't have to do that. We kept his position - which is very difficult to do given we are a grant driven and funded entity. He is a senior researcher - and it's been a struggle without him, but there is no way we could have brought someone in to fill his role because it would have undermined his belief that he would be coming back. Don't underestimate the value of what you see as little things.

We don't know what conditions are in his contract.

We do know the news came out after most of the coaching musical chairs were over, so we didn't have a large pool of talent to choose from.

End of the season we will have a clearer picture of what good/bad news we have to deal with.

Contracts don't mean a hell of a lot these days; if there was someone out there we wanted to get, we should've gone and got them.
