Just read a article that in 2 weeks the Asada thing should come to a close, and players could get a 2 year ban from playing due to taking a band drug.
Would anyone still trade for Carlisle?
For instance, lets say there is a ban for 20 or so players in 2 weeks. So half a year of this year, all of next year, and then won't be able to play until 2016.
I would still trade JJ and clay smith for Carlisle. he is still a young defender, so in 2016 he will be right to go.

If anyone is watching the Hawks vs GWS game, that mark that Patton took is the exact reason he'd fit us. Just a big clunk deep in the 50. It's where we lose out so often.
Didn't see it, but I have seen enough of him to know that his size is enormous and his hands are good. That'll do me. That's enough for us.

The free agency rules may be a problem for GWS and GCS. All their players will become eligible at the same time. The WA clubs will be right into O'Meara, Matera, Swallow and Harley and the vic clubs will be interested the GWS players the next year. WIll be pretty hard to match all the offers

The other problem is that after this year they won't be getting any high picks for at least 6 or 7 years. Going to leave a big hole in their lists.
They are going to be so strong in the 21-24yo list areas though that they can trade their stockpile for picks - they've been gifted success (providing the talent is developed) because of the list concessions they've been given.

Would I trade a rookie listed fringe running half back who makes poor decisions and a tough inside mid (which we have 10,000 of) for a 6'6" key back who is 22? In a heartbeat. Where do I sign?

I'd give them a 3rd rounder. No ****ing way would I even consider Smith + JJ for Carlisle who can't play for two years not a chance

I think our lack of KPPs has made everyone go a little mad :drunk: If we're going to pursue one though, it'll be costing us quite a bit

even if the KPP doesn't have the results or experience; really hope we pursue both Patton or Boyd next year though, both have the size and abilities we'd need in a forward and though we'll be competing with other clubs for their signature, I think next year will be another quiet year where we'd have a bit to offer from the draft and maybe a player/s

That's a horrible idea. For one, you think that 2 years out of the game will do nothing to him? And you want to let go JJ who has legitimate speed which is something we lack, and Smith who is a very promising young player who has had a few BOG performances as well. And they go on to play for the next 2 years while we get nothing in return for the next 2 years.

While I agree the compensation (in comparison to others - 1 first round pick should have been enough) was bullshit, I have no idea why that's been dragged up again. Kind of embarrassing if we actively brought it up. Less so if Jay Clark was doing an article on a club perspective of the GC and GWS concessions and brought it up himself though.
Why bring it up? maybe in preparation for another compensation at the end of the year. No harm in letting the AFL know that we were ripped off with Ward so if we are for consideration again it would not hurt for the AFL to be a little generous to even the ledger.

Honestly, what do you think the odds of that happening are? 3 years after the event. Personally, I'd say there's a big fat 0% chance of that happening.

should have been complaining about it sooner, I just think its been brought up again because we're still struggling :(

I agree that we've raised it because we don't want to get bent over the table in the future. The AFL has to know that if they don't treat us fairly, we will let the world know all about it.

I'm pretty sure we have complained about it before. At the end of 2012 i'm sure we did, though I can't find an article.

we were struggling then and I'm pretty certain we'll continue to complain until we're no longer struggling; got to be heard on the matter and make sure things like this don't happen to us in the future

Starting to wonder whether all this losing will push Murph and Boyd into retirement at the end of the year. Murph has said publicly that he was definitely leaning that way this time last year and the burst of form over the last 6 or 8 weeks was what changed his mind. Barring another similar surge in form, I wonder if he's heading that way again.

And I do wonder if Boyd sees that it might be time to pass the baton to Wallis. We might have more list spots opening at the end of the season that first thought.

Where did he say that? That would be most unfortunate if some players were retained because of those two also retiring, because we wouldn't be overloading with kids; but maybe this could be good if we wanted to target some FAs hmmm

Said on 360 early this year.

The list of possible free agency signings is really starting to wear thin now.

David Mackay (looks like he'll re-sign), James Frawley and David Mundy are probably the only viable ones left.

Unless you're inside the four walls of the club it's impossible to comment on culture however I believe on field we wouldn't lose as much as people think playing Wallis instead of Boyd. Thoughts?

As long as Wallis isn't playing as a pure tagger. We saw on the weekend that he actually does pretty well essentially just getting in before his direct opponent which is actually what he was doing last year.

Agree.

Agree entirely that we need to get griff on the outside as much as possible.
And running on his bloody right side. Gets stuck on his left far too much.
