If it wasn't for Roddick, Safin, Federer, Karlovic, El Anyoui, Ferrero, Baghdatis & Agassi, Hewitt would be closer to ten.

It is pointless saying if player X wasn't playing, player Y would have won such and such. You play in a grand slam and need to beat 7 players to win the title. You have no control over who your 7 opponents will be.

If you told me before Wimbledon that the below would happen;

Djokovic over Federer in classic 5 set match (one of the highest quality GS finals of the decade as well)
The ruthless return of Kvitova's potential
Bouchard makes a GS final
Raonic, Dimitrov & Cilic all stepping up and going deep
Kyrgios break out ATP tournament in QF run (including memorable wins over Nadal & Gasquet)
Hewitt, Tomic, Matosevic and Saville all make 2nd round
Stosur wins a mixed doubles slam

...then I would have been grinning from ear to ear. Not to mention, not a fan of Nadal & Berdych, plus DelPo, Janowicz and Verdasco all lost a lot of points as well. Just a really enjoyable slam.

But Nadal has knocked Federer out in Grand Slams so many times that it is a pretty significant stat, tbf.

If Pete Sampras wasn't around, Tim henman would have won multiple wimbledon titles.

If serena Williams wasn't around, Sharapova would have won more grand slams.

You can make that statement about so many players.

And Federer would have probably had 2 or 3 Calendar Slams. Honestly it is the reason why it is so hard to compare eras. It is why I hate the GOAT thing. I can understand 'greatest in this era', but come on, how do you compare a Laver, to a Connors, to a Sampras, Federer, Rafa. It is that hard.

Nadal doesn't make it to the second week anymore, he can beat Murray, just pushed Djokovic to 5 sets etc.

He has a chance next year if he plays like this.

Oh no doubt, I'm not disputing that. But I read something (can't remember where it was, see if I can find it tomorrow) that statistically showed how Nadal has been a bigger 'road block' to Federer than any other player has to another in the history of the game. Something like that.

It's strange time to break tradition and remove it.

Didn't seem like it helped even to provide even days between matches for finalists, I guess the only positive is it allows organisers to spend a day "sprucing up centre court and doing a general tidy up/re stock of the precinct"

Rest days in cricket were a tradition. Smoking in restaurants, offices, cinemas and planes was common. In 2014, all of those seem ridiculous.

I like what the French do. Whereas at Wimbledon they only play on 1 Sunday, at Roland Garros, they play on 3 Sundays.

The middle Sunday tradition is probably the stupidest thing in grand slam tennis, especially in a place where rain delays are part of the tournament every year. This year that stupid middle Sunday kicked Stan Wawrinka out of the tournament. The guy had to play three best of five matches in 3 days. He had nothing left in the tank after 2 sets.

The white dress is a good tradition and it makes Wimbledon a unique tournament. I like it, but even that was not always so strict.
