The race for the top 4

🥰 Love BigFooty? Join now for free.

I see what you Hawthorn supporters are up to :p no but seriously win tomorrow night week off to freshen up and then play us for a top 2 position.

Far to much talent and class for Hawthorn to miss the 4.

Honestly, we're done. I've been saying it since the pretty much the beginning of the season.
Too many injuries to our core players (and the tough draw hasn't helped).

Freo were missing Fyfe & Barlow for that game and i am not convinced they are that good yet need to see them play a few top sides before finals to make a call on them.

and we were missing Tippett, Reid, Bird and Laidler. all of whom are best 22 players (well laidler would be under pressure if AJ wasn't out for the season) Pyke was woefully out of form. It's a bit rich to claim 2 players are the difference between winning and losing, I mean we have shit depth but blaming a loss on two players? If our only losses were say franklin and Kennedy I wouldn't expect to lose games off of that and would be pissed if it was the case.

If freo are really that reliant on barlow and fyfe then they may as well surrender now. I don't care how good those players a team cannot win a flag if they lose games based on the absence of just two players.

Well there's no middle ground, talk the team up and we're the most arrogant supporters in the league, talk them down and we've got some bloody syndrome.

or maybe avoid the extreme's your not the "greatest team ever" nor have the wheels fallen off.

punt's is the swans boards resident doomsayer the sort of supporter that would be listing an intra club match as a "danger game".

Can't win can we.

It's hard to distinguish individuals from the team they (or you) support and then separate them from your (or our) pre-conceived ideas of that team they (or we) support.
It's important to remember that the people supporting the same team have as many different ideas about their team than everyone who doesn't support that team.

I admit I'm probably on the more pessimistic side of things as a supporter but I prefer to be pleasantly surprised than horribly disappointed :)

I honestly think we will miss top 4.

Can't see us beating Adelaide, Sydney, Freo or Geelong with our current form & injuries.

If we had the favourable draw of teams like North, Geelong or Sydney I think we would finish top 4.

We have to play 2 of the top 3 on the way home away, hawthorn play 1 at home

There wouldn't be a team in the comp who would win the flag with 2 of their starting 3 mids missing.

6 out of 7 games you have played against the top 8 sides so far have been at home. You have only played Gold Coast away and don't double up against Geelong or Freo.

You may be the best side but don't pretend you haven't had a favourable draw.

the hawks have proven they would be almost unfazed and I'd back us to push anyone but hawthorn if we were going into the game ONLY missing Kennedy and Parker, which are our current best mid's.

don't get me wrong, losing kennedy and parker is huge they don''t make or break our team. if anything losing defenders would damage teams far more then the midfield

I hate posts like this. We've traveled every week except for rounds 1-2 & 4-5.
I've highlighted games in the same city in a row as red, interstate travel/out of city as green and wins as bold in the following:

Sydney: AHAHHAAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAH
Hawthorn: HAHAAAHAAHHAHHA AHHHAHA

Our losses of the season was our first away game and first 2 home games. Since then we're 5-6 H-A. Other interstate teams will share a very similar pattern of travel, especially Fremantle & West Coast. Whereas Hawthorn had 3 consecutive games in Melbourne at the start of the season, then another 3 after they travel, then they travel for 2 games in a row. Because of their requirements to play games in Tasmania (4 per season), their travel balances out at the end of the year. Trip to Tasmania is equivalent to a trip to Sydney, albeit shorter.

So when someone posts drivel and dross like you do SA HAWK, first consider if your team really is that hard done by. Because our games against the other top 4/8 teams always came off the back of some form of travel, except for the Fremantle & Collingwood games. Hawks was off the back of 2 away games, Fremantle was 2 home games, Geelong was after Hawthorn & Essendon (A) and Port was after GCS (A). Apart from Melbourne & GWS, we played every current top 4/8 team, or thereabouts team up to round 13. That's 9 of 11 games. Whereas Hawthorn played 6 of 11 games against comparable teams.

So in short. F' off.

Top 3 i agree order of Cats & Freo maybe swap.

I think it will be out of Port & North for 4th spot.

I don't see it. Hawthorn are staggering a bit just through injury but unless that gets worse and half the side gets a dose of the screaming meanies or contagious broken legs, they'll make the top 4. They started the season on a belter and have only slowed down through injuries.....and they still kept winning. Theres a reason for that...something about being a good side or so....

I'm betting they pick up in the closing rounds....hopefully not against us at Subi though :D

We played you on 3 consecutive 6 day breaks. No other team this year gets that and it shouldn't happen.

You also played Geelong after a week off and they were playing their 3rd game in 13 days including a trip to Perth.

Yeah you have done it so hard I don't know how you have managed.

Just finished my latest ladder predictor

Syd 19 wins
Geel 18 wins
Freo 17 wins
Pies 16 wins

Port 15 wins
North 14 wins
Hawks 13 wins
Crows 12 wins

Below is what I though a few rounds ago
We won't be going undefeated the rest of the year, as much as I would like us to get a first-up QF against Sydney ;)

We won't win any more than 14 IMO

Not sure anyone is saying either of those extremes, which is kinda the point.
