I heard a rumour that Shaun Higgins (Bulldogs) is heading to North Melbourne as a Free Agent on $400k per season.

The Bulldogs won't be matching that.

Not a bad pay day for a guy that has been injured his whole career and has been supported by his club the whole way through... And when it comes time to repay them, GONE!!!

Did I hear one of the disembodied voices on SEN say that West Coast asked for Fev before 'settling' on JJK? I think it may have been on Finey and Robert Shaw's Sunday morning show.

Yeah but if we'd given up Fev we wouldn't have Hendo. A better trade in hindsight would have been to keep Kennedy and give them picks 1 & 3. Then we'd have Hendo and Kennedy *drools* and we only would have lost Kreuzer (and Masten).

Doesn't surprise me.

Higgins is a good footballer when fit but clearly his body has let him down along the journey. Very damaging player when on the park and it is easy to see why some clubs would be quite interested in acquiring his services without giving up anything in return.

North is one club I can see holding significant interest in Higgins. Another who I certainly think will chase him is Collingwood.

I like Shaun but there is no way in hell he's worth 400k.

I'm not so sure about that. I'd say that's about right for him.

I'd be interested to know what the average AFL salary is these days. Taking rookie listed players out of the equation, I wouldn't have thought 400k would be too far off the mark - and he's certainly an above average footballer.

$265,000 according to Tim Lane on 3AW.

He's spent 3/4 of his career in the rehab group. At his best, he'd be worth it. I wouldn't be giving him a long term contract on that coin though.

Interesting.

That being the case I'd say 400k for Higgins is definitely on the money (pun 100% intended).

Let's not forget that free agency generally inflates the worth of a player. That's the nature of the industry these days.

I guess it depends on what you'd consider to be 'long term'.

He's not on my list as a player I'd bring to Carlton but for mine it makes a lot of sense for clubs like Collingwood, Hawthorn and North Melbourne to chase him with a 2-3 year contract on that sort of money.
