I don't hate Collingwood

You argue that if you want. Hawthorn vs anybody in Tassie is not a disadvantage for Hawthorn.

I am counting games with distinct home ground advantages. That is where the "advantage" in not travelling comes from.

How exactly is it an unfair advantage for us if we have enough money that we don't have to sell home games interstate?
You replied to me. I simply stated Collingwood boast about their interstate record when they play less interstate games than the rest. All the other stuff you brought into it. I don't necessarily disagree with your other stuff, but it's irrelevant to my original post.
All in good fun though. But it is a hate Collingwood thread!

Next week we play the twilight Sunday slot... Again. We've played on Saturday or Sunday twilight slots for theast few rounds. We don't do a Friday night again until round 23 either.

How many Friday nights from the full 22 rounds compared to Melbourne, bulldogs, or even Brisbane or Port for example

Wouldn't they and their sponsors benefit from some Friday night love rather than the usual Collingwood, Hawthorn, Essendon games for example

Hated West Coast for a few years
Switched that hate to Port Adelaide for a couple of years.
Don't really hate any team atm
(when I say "hate" I really mean an intense dislike as "hate" is too strong a word)

Have never hated Collingwood and have always been a fan of Buckley, as a player and coach (more in the way he speaks and presents himself, not his coaching skill), beating them is always satisfying though.
When I was young Essendon was my No.2 team and Van der Haar, along with Peter Knights were my 2 favorite players.
Really enjoyed watching Geelong in the 90's and their current team, Ablett snr, Bairstow, Couch, Lindner I enjoyed, disliked Bruns.

Another AFL survey is completed with confirmation once again that there are a whole lot of people that still dislike Collingwood, but why? They have not been particularly good in the last 50 years, they have not rorted the system, Most of the players I've known (30 years) have been likeable hardworking types, and there has been some serious urban gentrification amongst their supporter group. I think the Collingwood that we are all supposed to hate vanished sometime in the early 90s. I understand, as a result of the ancient rivalry, how Carlton and Essendon fans would hate them, but the rest of us?

I don't hate Collingwood. I probably did 25 years ago, but these days if it has no bearing on my team's position, I don't care if they win or lose.

Collingwood's hate numbers probably has a lot to do with being rated 1 or 2 by other supporters of the the old "big 4", plus also from the the little Vic clubs who don't really have a rivalry with anyone so Collingwood become the default hated club.

Collingwood supporters I would assume mainly hate Carlton and that is why they are second.

Surprised by the Geelong hate (probably mainly Hawks supporters) and the little hate for Richmond being such a large club (but I guess you'd have to be over 45 years old to remember a time when Richmond were good enough to be hated).

Adelaide/Port and Freo/West Coast obviously hate each other.

this hasnt been the case for 4 years or so. we travel as much as any other Victorian side bar 1 or 2.

I don't hate Collingwood.

I don't hate anyone. I have a strong aversion to the Crows. Not real keen on soccer fans who want to wipe AFL out, either. They can go and get stuffed. But not a hater.

I am a big Nathan Buckley fan, actually

But I hope Port Adelaide smash Collingwood when we play them Sunday week. That's just football though- nothing personal!

I actually think the whole Collingwood hatred thing is a myth, built in a major part by Collingwood themselves to develop an us versus them mentality. That said, it is pretty safe that a lot of non-Collingwood (and even some Collingwood) supporters hate the current Collingwood President.

Realistically I think the most hated club in Victoria is Essendon. The fans are the worst in Victoria comfortably and the way the club has acted over the last 18 months is a disgrace. If anyone other than Hird had been coach they would've been sacked, so why did Essendon save an unproven coach? Because Paul Litte and over 50% of the EFC board have pictures of him at home and get warm fuzzy feelings when they look at it.

I don't hate Collingwood. I dislike them, but I also admire them.
They were in the absolute shit 15 years and got their way out of it through hard work and smart business decisions. As much as I dislike Eddie at certain times, he pulled that club out of the mire.

Actually to be honest, that short period when they were brought down to earth is probably what changed if for me. Carlton had the same opportunity to do an honest rebuild, and instead tanked, messed around with the salary cap and third party payments. Essendon have had their chance now to make their club honest, but have instead turned it into a circus.

119 would have to be in the mix as well you'd think.

You 2 don't speak for all your fan base. Just before the game between Geelong and port earlier this year, there was a very interesting thread started on the port forum that gave the very distinct impression many of your own fans don't share your feelings on the matter.

I hate Collingwood on game day, but that's honestly about it.

I truly hate all the other AFL teams, but especially at VFL level. I enjoy with great satisfaction every time the Borough beats one and looking at the bewildered AFL club fans who realize passionate supporters and strong sides exist beyond the homogenized world of Etihad Stadium and the MCG. They roll into North Port Oval thinking they can just steamroll the little guy, but we are just as successful as any Victorian team in the AFL, and easily as hated as Essendon, Collingwood and Carlton combined!

I kinda like watching Eddie ...
I am absolutely sure that head is going to explode one day and I want to see it live.

I hate them.
Watching Cloke hold the club to ransom for more $$$ than what he's worth was pretty funny as too Thomas who seemed to want an excessive chunk of that money pie.

Yeah. Pretty funny. It's even funnier with Cloke turning out to be one of the best forwards in the comp since signing the contract and Thomas a dud.

Mwah

I can understand the general/historical hate towards Collingwood, and understand (and to some extent) agree with why people don't like Eddie... but in terms of the actual players and the club over the last 25 years, I don't really get it.

We won 1 flag in 1990 then were largely irrelevent for most of that decade. (Brisbane fans allowed to be angry about Bucks running - though I don't think they cared once they got 3 flags).
Our '02, '03 grand final teams were both full of battlers who overachieved as a group. And our 2010 group was largely young and (IMO - likeable for the most part) guys.
---

Of the other clubs, Carlton is the only club I really dislike, (though I still wanted them to win last week - and I do like many of their younger players), and I had begun to like the Bombers until the ASADA scandal, and even then have really liked how the players have handled themselves since then.

Otherwise, I only really 'hate' clubs when it is contextually the time to do so (ie. the Saints in 2010, Cats in 2011, and Hawthorn/Sydney while they have been at the top - but still respect a lot of their players and coaches)
