Tapscott and Blease have both played outstanding games at AFL level. Their problem isn't a low ceiling, it's a great proclivity towards turning in trash-like performances as well.Yeah but all 3 of those guys would kill to get that amount of footy just once in there AFL career
He butchers it for sure but he is lucky that his competition is the outstanding junior talents of Blease, Strauss and Tappy

My source has gone both ways in the past tbh. Been wrong before, but he's a (relatively) neutral third party to it all. What I've heard is 'somewhat more likely, but noone is getting their hopes up.'And what had you heard?
I dont understand this club at all.
How the hell are they anything but fringe/depth players at best. They wouldnt get a sniff at ANY other AFL list, yet they play week in and out for Melbourne.
Okay maybe Riley deserves another year, but Jesus Christ on a bike, Bail and Terlich?
Disappointing is the nicest way of putting it. This list needs to be swept clean and we retain two bit players.
/golfclap
Six other Melbourne clubs have had a word.
**** off you filthy, insensitive campaigners.
And I mean that. It would be an absolute farce if he returned to anywhere but Melbourne, especially if he's living here.
It shouldn't even be an option, and I'd hope those other clubs had a bit more class than that.
3AWWhere did you read this?
Illness or not if he ran out for Geelong next year he would be on the level of scully for me
This is pretty much spot on. If Watts, Trengove, Grimes, Howe, Frawley, Dawes, Garland and McDonald play to potential and do so consistently every week it a) helps out the more talented players already doing it like Jones, Tyson, Vince, Dunn, Cross and Jetta and b) means that less talented players like Pedersen and Bail and even the Tapscotts and Bleases of the world (talented but poorly developed) need only play their role to be effective. Then you can add young guys like Toumpas, Salem, Viney, Gawn, Kent, Michie, Fitzpatrick, JKH and allow them to develop properly while demonstrating some readymade ability to influence AFL contests. Like you said it's that core group at the moment who should be the best players at the club who are letting everyone else down through combination of injury, skill deficiency and lack of effort.Alot of people keep blaming the bottom 6 of the team as if that is our problem when its not, its the 6 behind Jones, Tyson and Vince

I wasn't talking about any of those three - just pointing out that Terlich really is quite average.
Oh yeah Terlich is trash, I just dont understand some of the people here who think that delisting 12 players will automatically = 12 better players
No one does, but drafting someone with pick 70 seems more likely to be successful than hoping a lemon turns into a star (or even a decent footballer). Oddly enough, when you're at the bottom of the table with a shit list, sacking people and bringing in new players might help. If it's a top 4 side - yeah, more likely than not those late picks aren't going to improve on what you have.
No one has seriously suggested shooting 12 of these lame ducks either, but mediocre players getting contract extensions is nothing to get excited about.
Rumour of an offer from GC for Frawley worth $800,000 a year over 6 years.
This is from a Facebook page so take it with a grain of salt, but would give us pick 3 if it were to happen and would be a great move by chip.

Matt Jones Pick 53
Dean Terlich Pick 68
James Sellar Pick 54
Rohan Bail Pick 64
Isaac Weetra Pick 62
Josh Tynan Pick 52
Couch, Williams, Magner, Stark, Clisby, Sheahan, Nicholson, Evans, Johnston, Lawrence, Campbell, Mcnamara
There is our list of Rookie stars in the last 3 years
There aint alot of talent around after the first few picks
2,3,20,38,56,74,92,110,128
Thats 9 Picks
Your welcome to tell me who out of that list of amazing late talent will get the job done, because thats who we will get with pick 110
The only way that we will use more than about 5-6 picks at the Draft is if we Trade out talent for it
No one will offer us ANYTHING for Bail,Terlich, Riley, Mckenzie etc
If we somehow end up with 7 picks in the top 40 then by all means delist away
Jetta turned from being a lemon, into one of our best, but I do agree though. Terlich is at the age where you'd think he can't really improve much, especially with the kicking skills that he possesses. No one does, but drafting someone with pick 70 seems more likely to be successful than hoping a lemon turns into a star (or even a decent footballer). You're giving us examples of players who the MFC have chosen with late picks. What about Dan Hannebry or Robbie Gray(55)? Westhoff(71) Sam Fisher(55). Dane Swan went in the 70's. Andrew Swallow went 43. Even Brent Harvey back in the day went late 40's. James Hird went 79 didn't he? Taylor Walker went in the 70's! Our own Stephen Tingay, Russell Robertson and Cam Bruce all were after pick 50. Daniel Cross was in the 50's and I could mention dozens and dozens of rookie listed players who went on to become stars.
Yes, lots of duds with picks after 2nd round, however, we have lots of duds that have been number 1 pick as well. I'd prefer the club got rid of the likes of Bail and Terlich who clearly aren't up to this level, and try our luck at the draft or trade table. Cross, Vince and Tyson have proven you can get players from other clubs in who can have impact right away! I don't mind Bail, but surely after the coach comes out and says we need more talent, you don't go signing on two players who have none. I understand we can't turn over 12+ players in one off season. We need fodder to scrap at the end of next season as well. However, my personal opinion is, I'd rather us look to the draft or trade table in place of Terlich, Spencer and Bail etc.
