He butchers it for sure but he is lucky that his competition is the outstanding junior talents of Blease, Strauss and Tappy

Tapscott and Blease have both played outstanding games at AFL level. Their problem isn't a low ceiling, it's a great proclivity towards turning in trash-like performances as well.

Until watts toumpas Tyson viney etc can set that benchmark then bail and terlich an co will continue to set that benchmark

These guys were not retained for there skill
They were retained because the minimum output of the majority is still horrible

If Watts, Trengove, Grimes, Howe, Frawley, Dawes, Garland and McDonald play to potential and do so consistently every week it a) helps out the more talented players already doing it like Jones, Tyson, Vince, Dunn, Cross and Jetta and b) means that less talented players like Pedersen and Bail and even the Tapscotts and Bleases of the world (talented but poorly developed) need only play their role to be effective. Then you can add young guys like Toumpas, Salem, Viney, Gawn, Kent, Michie, Fitzpatrick, JKH and allow them to develop properly while demonstrating some readymade ability to influence AFL contests. Like you said it's that core group at the moment who should be the best players at the club who are letting everyone else down through combination of injury, skill deficiency and lack of effort.

I couldnt have said that any better, Too many of our senior players have failed to reach a high level of AFL football consistently
Nathan Jones is the only player on our list who has played to his ability game after game season after season ( new recruits exempt )

No one does, but drafting someone with pick 70 seems more likely to be successful than hoping a lemon turns into a star (or even a decent footballer). Oddly enough, when you're at the bottom of the table with a shit list, sacking people and bringing in new players might help. If it's a top 4 side - yeah, more likely than not those late picks aren't going to improve on what you have.

No one has seriously suggested shooting 12 of these lame ducks either, but mediocre players getting contract extensions is nothing to get excited about.

Bail's good to keep until his spot and a backup or two have gone past him. Terlich already has met that criteria so it sucks he's still around. Riley is worth another look at after a preseason as he looked good when he wasn't tired.

GC is exactly the place I would go if I were Chip. And if he gets anywhere near that salary, it would be idiotic of him not to leave. GC will win a flag in the next 3 years and are all but assured of an annual finals place from next season on.

You're giving us examples of players who the MFC have chosen with late picks. What about Dan Hannebry or Robbie Gray(55)? Westhoff(71) Sam Fisher(55). Dane Swan went in the 70's. Andrew Swallow went 43. Even Brent Harvey back in the day went late 40's. James Hird went 79 didn't he? Taylor Walker went in the 70's! Our own Stephen Tingay, Russell Robertson and Cam Bruce all were after pick 50. Daniel Cross was in the 50's and I could mention dozens and dozens of rookie listed players who went on to become stars.

Yes, lots of duds with picks after 2nd round, however, we have lots of duds that have been number 1 pick as well. I'd prefer the club got rid of the likes of Bail and Terlich who clearly aren't up to this level, and try our luck at the draft or trade table. Cross, Vince and Tyson have proven you can get players from other clubs in who can have impact right away! I don't mind Bail, but surely after the coach comes out and says we need more talent, you don't go signing on two players who have none. I understand we can't turn over 12+ players in one off season. We need fodder to scrap at the end of next season as well. However, my personal opinion is, I'd rather us look to the draft or trade table in place of Terlich, Spencer and Bail etc.

Jetta turned from being a lemon, into one of our best, but I do agree though. Terlich is at the age where you'd think he can't really improve much, especially with the kicking skills that he possesses.

Yep all those mentioned went between 50 and 80?

Lets say we use those 7 picks at the draft then and bring in the magic at 74 and 92

Strauss, Blease, Tapscott, Frawley, Clark, Byrnes and Jetta Upgraded ... Thats 7 players already!
If you Delist Terlich and Riley that means we are using 110 and 128 ... Id rather keep guys who have already played AFL

Cross was a delisted FA, And Vince and Tyson cost us draft picks

Im sick of explaining this to people, your solutions aren't practical this season unless we fill the list with delisted players from other clubs which is just replacing one spud with another or not filling the primary list

NEXT season when we can play in FA you will see the back of as many spuds as we can possibly get rid of, but our hands are tied this season

There is a very real chance that Bail, Terlich and Riley will be at Casey all season, but he obviously prefers that trio to Strauss, Tappy and Blease
