Collingwood's board won't sign off on the deal unless it's a very good deal involving a pick/quality player.
Remember in all these discussions.
-he is contracted.
-it is a sellers market.
-Dayne will not screw over Collingwood and sit out next year. There is no bad blood between him and the football club.
-In 2010, Dayne faced the real possibility of being charged in a rape case.
-the club hired him a QC that top money could only buy.
-the Beams family are on public record that they owe the club for life.
-Connors is a Collingwood member. Without doubt he will separate business from pleasure but he isn't going to deliberately screw over the club he goes to watch each week.
-this is a sellers market.
-it isn't up to Collingwood to get the deal done.
-it is up to Connors and Brisbane to drive the deal.
-Pick 5 is not a valuable draft pick.
-there is a clear top 4. McCartin, Brayshaw, Wright, Petracca.
-that is why Swann is kicking up a stink about the Frawley compensation.
-he knows Hine doesn't rate Pick 5 as being unique in this draft, those 4 above are the 4 best players in the draft and Heeney and Moore are considered next in his draft board.
-thus there is no difference between pick 5 and pick 15.
-to get quality, you have to give up quality.
-even more when that player is contracted.

There is no difference between 5 and 15? Please. I understand the difference between 4 and 5, and it's significant. But to say there is no difference between 5 and 15 flies in the face of reality.

It's a very even draft.
Petracca is the best player in the draft.
McCartin, Brayshaw & Wright are next in line.
The best midfielder in the draft is Petracca & then Heeney who is going to Sydney.
On a talent level Moore sits amongst this group.
So that is 5/6 players at the nose of the draft.
There then is a very even group to 15.
There is no standout player in this group and it is very even.
It's a big reason why Greg Swann was complaining about the Frawley compensation.
He is very close with Hine. Lifelong friends, got him his job at Collingwood.
Hine has told him Pick 5 isn't a unique pick.

The likes of Durdin, Ahern, Weller, LaVerde, Lever, Goddard, Pickett and the like are next. There is no standout in this group that makes him the 6/7 player of the draft, it's very even from 5 to 15.
Most recruiters know this. That is why Swanny was flapping his arms about over the Frawley compensation.

Ask the team with pick 5 if they'll trade it for pick 15... laughed out of the room

There is a reason Swann is complaining about the Frawley compensation.
If you use your brain and look at the draftees in the 5 to 15 range you will work out why.
That is ignoring lumping Heeney and Moore as academy and father sons.

If you read my previous post, I acknowledged there was a big difference between 4 and 5... but to say there is no difference between 5 and 15 is naiive...

Okay tear this one apart.

Swans Gain: Pick 4 & Patfull
Swans Lose: Mitchell & Reid

Lions Gain: Beams
Lions Lose: Pick 4 & Patfull

Pies Gain: Mitchell & Reid
Pies Lose: Beams

Swans gain a top end draft pick, and a good backman which they looked to lack in the Grand Final, and lose two players that were on the fringe for most of the year thanks to the depth of the Swans' forwards and mids.

Most Lions fans acknowledge that it will take more than pick 4 to land Beams and in this scenario the something more is a player who has indicated his preference to leave the club anyway.

The Pies lose their gun midfielder that they don't want to lose, but gain two players who are almost in the age bracket that Hine is talking about wanting.

It's the reality.
It is known amongst every AFL recruiter.
You can have drafts where this is the case.
It's why Swanny was complaining about Frawley.

i would like to see what trade radio would think of that trade

We all know why he's complaining. But the Frawley comp pick has been touted as 3 for some time. Swann being an old campaigner surely would have realised this is the market he is in this yr.

5 is still more valuable than 15, but with this year's draft obviously worse than 4.

With 5, you can choose which of the guys from the next tier that you want... if you have pick 15 you get the one who is left. Would Collingwood swap pick 8 for pick 15, nothing else involved? Of course not, Collingwood aren't stupid. So, therefore 8 is worth more than 15, and by the same logic, 5 is worth more than 15.

And one more point I forgot.
-Brisbane are offering Beams 800 grand per year.
-that make him their highest paid player.
-do you think Collingwood aren't going to say to them,
You are making Beams your highest paid player
You are then ranking him above everyone on your list in a pay scale.
Do you believe offering a marginal draft pick correlates with your offer to Beams in a financial sense?

Do you really think that Brisbane are only going to offer their first round pick? Really?

I think that's the point lost here. Brisbane morons think pick 4 is equitable to someone they are willing to pay $800k to. Pick 4 is probably a $150k player first yr. Collingwood have said they want like for like. Which part of their Fantasies has deluded them so much they can't understand this simple concept?

Sydney lose too much depth in their premiership window

I dont think so imean like sydney have so many good kids coming though so i dont think losing mitchell would hurt them at all, Reld might be harder to leave them due to goodes prob throwing in the towel. But they gain Patful just to make that defence really good and a good pick at pick 4 . i dont think it will happen but ,due to mitchell wanting to make that sydney best 22 but you never know

Adding players like Crisp and Bewick is not going to cut it.
You have to give away quality to get quality.
That is a fair and neutral trading ethos.
The last time a player the calibre of Beams came onto the market was Burgoryne.
He is a fair and reasonsable trading guide.
It is up to Brisbane and Connors to satisfy the deal.
They are the drivers.
If you don't give up quality to get Beams, you won't be getting him.
