There is no way North have bought Waite in on a 2 year deal to be a back-up, he will play from Round 1 if fit.

I mean the following year, so the year after next year....

Next year Petrie and Waite with Brown getting his first preseason and taking a spot when injury/ suspension or form

then the following year - Brown begins to take over one of those key positions.

I shouldve said the following year.

Brown should start the year a lock..
I don't know why they all potentially couldn't play in the same side?? As Black/Wood could play the high hff role.
Black should be made to earn his spot back through the two's or smash down the door with preseason form.
I'd also look at Petrie playing at CHB throughout the year (depending on the form of the fwd line).

Because once you add in our not overly quick mids, once the ball hits the deck we're too exposed to the fast rebound.... imo.

I really don't like the thought that we would bring Waite in and make Petite play down back. Petrie has earned his spot as No.1 forward, if anyone's playing defence it's Waite IMO

What do our not overly paced mids have to do with rebound out of 50?
If they all play their role and have defined / pre-planned leading patterns then I don't think its issue (this is one of the reasons why Majak Daw has no spot in our team) and will actually cause teams to respect our fwd line and not peel off. We will be hard to defend against.
I see bigger issue as identifying and playing dedicated front and square crumbing players. This is where I think Nahas has a spot on our list. I think Thomas really needs to have his role clearly defined and explained as I think its too liberal.

I'd be surprised if any of our key forwards have a spot guaranteed right now, even Petrie.

Petrie has earned his right to stay in whatever position he want's. He has been valued servant for a number of years that cops unfair criticism from our lot and opposition posters calling him a flat track bully.

I think as vice captain he goes missing too often as a deep fwd, im not sure if he doesn't have the leadership or a lack nous to move himself down field to get more involved. The cats SF game was a PRIME example.. Clearly Hawkins was catching and kicking everything, he was inspired to win the game off his own boot. Our defenders had no answer for him and the momentum was all with Geelong. If Scott doesn't have the aptitude to make a move to attempt to counteract this, then, Id have though as a big bodied, senior member and vice captain of the team may have taken it upon himself to fill a hole instead of watching our lead and ultimately the season simply to an untimely end.
By playing him as an allocated defender then its making the move for him.

I cant see what there is to lose by trialing this, especially as we have as close a clone to Petrie as I think exists in the game as Waite who I think can play his deep fwd role with the same output.

Once the ball goes into the 50 our mids for a defensive line to keep it in there. Ball hits deck 4 x 190cm guys get blown away by pace, then the opposition needs to get past our zone.

Look at our game Vs Sydney to what Hawthorn did. The Hawks have Roughead who is a very strong ground player, so much so he sometimes starts in the center square. Then the slower Hale or Bigboy drifting in. Hawks arent that fast in the midfield themselves, but their forward pressure destroyed the Swans rebound where we were totally carved up.

The other example is Sydneys forward line. They have some big forwards yes, but lets look at them. Tippett....yes can be exposed. Buddy - the guys a freak, he's like a giant ruck rover and super fast. Reid - spud and Goodes who plays more like Thomas and has good speed. As seen when he blew McDonald away.

I agree with to an extent on Thomas, while he can take a grab we always look better imo when he's crumbing. With 3 talls and a JZ or Cunners resting up there that should be more his role.

But hey its just my opinion, i just think we have much better team balance with 2 x Petrie, Waite, Brown and 1 x Black or Wood.

The * Bombers just signed Gwilt.

Did read they were also interested in Cooney although you'd think he'd have had enough of troubled clubs by now.
I'm happy for Gwilt, recongnised that he would be in every week due to probable infractions by the start of next season. Take advantage while you can.

We already have Boomer, NDS, Petrie, Firitto, Wells (30yo in Feb)....now Waite & Cooney, are we serious ??

Forget a flag, we may start to resemble this in 2015 !!

I don't like this path we're going down, not one bit.

So much for Jack Welcher.

Petrie goes missing a lot because he's getting double teamed consistently.
It happened noticeably less when Brown was in the team, though carrying out of form players such as Black just cannot be tolerated as this provides opposing the opportunity to peel off and double team. This is why I like the Waite acquisition, essentially a substantial upgrade on Daw and CUrran

It's the inexperience of Black, Daw and Brown haven't helped, that's why l think Black was being asked to go up the ground to leave Petrie more one out. I was at the Sydney game and Petrie was getting smashed everytime by two defenders.

I liked the European football analogy, you need a deep squad to win things. Waite, Higgins, Cooney and even Varcoe won't play full seasons, and when they don't play, Brown, Wood, Dumont, Garner, Sugar, etc. get games.

Problem with kids is sure you can give them games, but no comp for spots and they play lazy and stagnate. Hence the problem of your Melbourne and Richmond's, play on potential alone you get entitled 20 y.o's who think kick chasing is acceptable.

Rarely do you have your first choice team all together on the field, a deep squad is important in not letting injuries derail your season.
