Cheney is ahead of Schoey

Pardon the intrusion.

According to 5AA, the rumour is the list manager asked the Adelaide forwards which of Cheney and Schoenmakers they preferred tto play on and the answer was (unanimously) Schoenmakers, so they went after Cheney instead.

Take that for what it's worth.

Walker couldn't get a kick on Shoey when they played this year and I'd be surprised in many of them had ever even played against let alone on Cheney. That would be a terrible way to make your recruitment decisions.

Thats interesting because the last time Cheeney played against Adelaide was 2012 .
Shoey only this year kept its best forward in Walker to 10 disposals and 2 goals in a narrow loss.
Perhaps they don't like his pony tail.

If we lose all of Lowden, Hallahan, Grimley, Schoey and Cheney, that's 8 outs including Sewell, Kelley and Garlett.

I can't imagine having 6 picks in the draft, and I can't see us upgrading more than 1 rookie at most, so do we have our eyes on 1-2 more players potentially?

Hawks will lose 2 of those players max. All that is happening is the Hawks are shopping 5 or 6 players to see who can land them the best deal. Which ever 2 deliver the best value picks (as opposed to the highest picks) will unfortunately be gone.

Trades by year

2010: 20
2011: 31
2012: 28
2013: 27
2014: 4*
as every year....all the trades happen in the last couple of days.

once the big trade is done, all the dominoes fall....expect a flurry of trades once the beams/lumumba/varcoe/greenwood mega trade is done.

Also with those numbers, consider the growing list of FA deals that once were trades

Martin will play up forward again I would say. He would be ahead of Sexton, Lemmens, Lonergan and Boston. He will be a tight squeeze and will create competition for spots but I am really keen to acquire him.
Oh sure, competition is always a good thing. Just think he's moving to be 9th best mid from a list he's about 10th best on.

Josh Kennedy?

Yep, like i said, there would certainly be examples, but the vast majority of those players end up going nowhere, or as good solid players. Since the talk is that he will be replacing Hodge/Mitchell/Burgoyne, he would need to be one of those rare few. I don't think he has more of a chance of becoming that player than the other young depth players he is competing with, and we can get something of value now, before he inevitably walks out on us next year after playing very little at AFL level in 2015.

At least a couple of these players will leave over the next couple of years. All have the potential to bite us in the arse for letting them go, but we might as well get something for them when they do.

I personally wouldn't say 9th. In the role he is going to play he would be top 4 for the spot. We have a fair few inside-out players but we are going to try lessen the load on their body and Hallahan is perfect for this.

The Eddie effect.

The two bottlenecks this season have been Collingwood and Essendon, always notorious hard to trade with, turned up to warp factor 5 this season.

Those once great and powerful clubs (carlton inc.) no longer have on field prominence, so now they have resorted to pissing on gates outside the stadium.

I'd be interested to know how many times each player has lined up against the swans.

No one wants to play on a dirty ranga.

Regardless of role, who out of the top 8 would he displace in a head to head selection?

He may be better than Lemmens and help out in the middle so JOM n co aren't battered as much, but it's not like he'll have scope to improve (to be better than them), whilst still being surrounding by a lot more depth midfielders to compete with. I think there's less competition for him at Hawthorn, although obviously would have to wait a couple of years for retirements to get the chance to play more games, which he may do at Gold Coast next season.

This is the proposed best 22 I posted on the Suns board:

B: Broughton, May, Mckenzie
HB: Malceski, Thompson, Kolodjashnij
C: Harbrow, Swallow, O'Meara
HF: Martin, Lynch, Bennell
FF: Day, Dixon, Matera

R: Nicholls, Prestia, Ablett

INT: Rischitelli, Stanley, Hallahan
SUB: Shaw

Lemmens plays backline unless he is the sub so he wouldn't be competing with Hallahan. JOM is going to have a crap pre-season cos of surgery so he may play a different, lighter role next season.

The difference at hawthorn is that Mitchell, Burgoyne and hodge will be gone in a couple of years whereas at GC their better midfielders will be there for the next 6 years, Ablett aside.

So I understand hallahans want to leave, but don't think it'll work out for him.

Also Ross & Wang off the rookie list makes it 10 in all....That's pretty much been our average over the past 4-5 seasons.....This is a strong & deep draft, so 6 picks inside the top 60 would be well worth it, though I suspect we will pick up at least one other 'surprise' player, much as we did with Simpkin 2 seasons ago!

Hallahan is contracted for 1 more year- so Gold Coast should pay a bit more for him than we received for jk3 or mcglynn (as they were out of contract) if they aren't willing to cough up pick 29 at least I'd keep him at hawthorn for another year and see if he force his way into the team. If not- we will get sweet f/a for him next trade week but our time is now and he might turn out to be good next year for us after all.

On cheeney/schoey- I'd be trying to trade out cheeney on the chance that Schoey comes back better next year.

Lowden/ grimley- would prefer to offload grimley but obviously there's been a lack of interest for him and some for lowden- selfishly I'd like lowden to stay but he's uncontracted and doesn't wannto play 4th ruck forever.
