Melbourne should get an insta fail for recruiting he who has the last laugh....but no, distinction
And lost their AA defender and the KPF they paid a first rounder for a few years ago.

The Vic media caters to the Vic market. Even if WCE had knocked one out of the park they would still struggle to praise us.

Would not be surprised if Geelong went for Goddard.

Hi, hope you don't mind me giving my 2 cents.

It's possible they go with Goddard, as we need to start developing cover for Lonergan and Taylor. The interest in Frawley was all about looking for another Key Defender.

But with Christensen's surprise migration and Varcoe going as part of the Clark deal, I'd say a fast, skilled mid to play an outside role might be more pressing.

Cockatoo and Pickett fit that bill, but the general feeling is that Cockatoo may well be available at 14 (Geelong's original pick). The trading up to 10 says to me they are after Pickett.

Or possibly Ahern.

I'm not in that camp of people who get personally offended when the media doesn't spend enough time fawning over the Eagles, but sersiouly there must be a way of calling out this type of ultra-amateur reporting for the tripe that it is.

This is Fox/Herald Sun - one of the most mainstream media companies in the country, and the quality of its output is absolutely D-grade. A year 9 kid on work experience could do a better job. Actually it's probably who wrote it.

I want to leave a comment under the article but don't want to register to their poxy site in order to do so.

either that or you wanted to make sure that Goddard was available at your first pick he definitely wouldn't of gotten past freo so either that or trying to secure pickett would be myguess

And we will go another year without a line broken (except for the lines in the houses Masto trains down).

I bet if we traded for Lucas instead of getting him for nix in the PSD we would have got a distinction with the rest of the so so performers in trade week.
Absolutely - cos we'd be 'addressing teh needs of our list'

Or possibly Ahern.

I'm no expert on young draft prospects, but from what I have read Ahern will go late in the first round - very early second round. Given that, I doubt Geelong would feel the need to hussle up a few slots in the picking order. They seem to be targeting someone they feel will go earlier. My money is on Pickett, given the wraps on him and that he fits our 'needs'. But I guess we have 6 long weeks to speculate.

I understand that players didn't want to come here but what disappoints me is that we didn't get to upgrade our picks. Our midfield is holding us back, if you can't win the ball around the contest you won't beat the top 8 teams.

All year the message on here was our midfield is the problem but we should have a top 10 pick and be able to grab one of the three mids available in the draft who we desperately need - Petracca, Brayshaw or Laverde. We end up winning a few nothing games at the end of the season and Melbourne get a compo pick and all of a sudden all of those guys will be gone before we enter the draft.

Now to me looking at the desperate state of our midfield we have to do something to upgrade our 1st round pick and grab one of those players. Melbourne won't let Petracca get past them fair enough, but the other two were realistic options for us if we moved up the order. But we did nothing. What happens if next year we have pick 10 or 11 again which gets bumped down to pick 13 because of other compo picks and all the quality mids are gone, no interstate player will come over here and all of the WA boys are happy up in the Gold Coast or West Sydney. What do we do then.

When will we ever rebuild our midfield. We are aimlessly drifting along in a never ending rebuild which started at the end of 07.

Yep, it does seem to be one of the two. Goddard is also a Geelong boy, so that could be a factor. Still, I'm leaning toward Pickett being the target.

Fair enough. He is super quick and it makes sense that he would be targeted to replace the two players you lost. I can only go on what I saw in the u18 champs but Ahern was super impressive and although not as quick is silkier and classier than Pickett. But given Pickett is from WA and Ahern from Vic, I really don't mind which one we end up with - which is how its shaping up atm.

Dogs 2015 prospects with Griffen and Cooney= bottom 4.

Does it REALLY matter that these blokes left? is it better they won 1-2 more games a season because of them next year when one of them is broken and the other one cbf being there and is currently 28?

Wallis, Bonts, Dahlhaus, Liberatore, Stringer, Macrae.. now add Boyd. Lots to like about the Bulldogs, another year into those players and they will start climbing. Remember when Port were a laughing stock? On another note, I think you underestimate the significance of the Bulldogs finally getting that quality tall forward they have been chasing for 10 years.

Is loosing your coach even a thing anymore? maybe im just numb to it but a player with a 10 year career is likely to have 4 coaches these days..

I don't even know where to start... I doubt repeating myself would help... ok.

the whole deal revolves around Tom Boyd. If Tom Boyd is as good as Tomahawk this will have been an abject failure. He will have to be as good as Buddy or Jonno Brown for this to be deemed a success. And he has to be that good within the next 2 years. He is on superstar money, money only a dozen players in the game are on. He cost an AA player in his prime plus pick 6.

And they sacked their coach because...?

Love these busted ar$e clubs throwing around other people's $'s thanks to equalisation...

A few people here feel he's not worth pick 11, so we'll have to wait and see. I will be mighty pissed if Geelong takes him one pick before us and Weller is also gone.

We both have similar needs.

Like Geelong we have great KPPs and a Brownlow winning inside midfielder.

Can you imagine if he did an ACL in Round 1

At the very least trading up from 14 to 10 probably ensures you get at least one of Pickett or Goddard

How so? Do you think Pickett is rated higher simply because he's a couple of ms faster?

That's interesting you rate Ahern the silkier and more skillful player. I'll have to check out his highlights - a limited guide, I know, but all I have to go on. But who knows, we may be targeting Goddard after all, in which case you might have a choice between the two (Ahern and Pickett). Anyway, happy drafting!
