Great song. Interesting thing with Cromwell is that he left his home area virtually untouched. This is why so many beautiful churches survived in East Anglia.

No doubt, it's tough being a professional athlete, lots of hard work involved. But at the end of the day, they're playing a game they love for a living, and getting paid bucket loads of cash for doing so.

I'd take that over the daily grind of sales and negotiation any day (and I actually quite like my job, unlike a lot of people).

Which I guess is why you expect and hope that they will not respond to temptation with the attitude of a normal,young man working an ordinary job. AFL players are highly paid athletes, and whether they like it or not, role models. They have much to lose in terms of money, lifestyle and respect.

It doesn't really matter whether you think they should be role models or not. Once they are in the public eye, once kids start running around with their numbers on their backs, they become a role model.

I was more in to cricket than footy growing up. My hero was Ricky Ponting. I wanted to be just like him, and early on in his career he was a party boy. I thought he was dead cool. Thankfully he cleaned up his act, became an even better cricketer, and I was able to see the virtue in hard work over just relying on natural talent.

We are all human. We all make mistakes. But high profile guys like footy players need to be more aware of how they behave in public and what they do that might damage their profile. Because yes, they are role models, whether they like it or not.

What I find kind of ironical is that under the Oliver Cromwell of AFL coaching, Nathan Buckley, the puritan who has weeded out all the dissenters, imbibers and drug takers from his squad, we are the second AFL team to be disciplined for performance enhancing drugs and have the first player double header. Cleanliness in our case is not next to Godliness.

If these lads have taken drugs of any sort I'd be infuriated. Life in footy is short, and they would be well advised to deny themselves those questionable pleasures until they've hung up the boots. The likely loss of 2 senior players will affect our chances of doing well this year. Maybe I won't get access to that grand final ticket that my Legends membership entitles me to, but I fiercely resent a players compromising out chances before the year even begins.

Kids pay attention to what their kids tell them to do these days?

Either you don't remember being a kid, or you were one of the odd ones out who actually listened to their parents.

Also, kids pay no attention to politics until they're young adults. Not sure why eating a raw onion can even be regarded in the same league as taking coke.
