Agree rationally signs are pointing towards Geelong, but I can't shake that feeling he might re sign with Adelaide unfortunately. History would say when he hasn't resigned/given any indication of resigning that his gone, but history doesn't really mean anything to the individual. Always a first time

Don't think he could/would even if he wanted to through fear of the AFL investigating a deal be done while he was still contracted. No chance.

Rugby League coaches, clubs and barrackers seem absolutely united in agreeing that this is the worst of all systems.
Nobody, however, seems to have suggested a good system for either football or rugby.

There's also a few saying that the deal is done and AFC are (inexplicably) holding off the announcement because... reasons? That bit's not really clear.

If PD has signed at Adelaide it'll be announced before the ink is dry. If he's decided to stay there's no reason to not at least say on radio that he's staying or wants to stay. Right now he either hasn't decided (most likely), or is going.

There's also the fact that Phil Walsh's passing makes announcements a bit awkward. Might want to wait a week or two before he makes it all about him?

Highly doubt that's the case, but it's an option you don't seem to have covered (correct me if I'm wrong).

Not only that but also having to deal with the guilt of leaving your club which has given you so much and also your team mates at a time when they probably needed you the most. It wouldn't be an easy decision and even if he has already made up his mind to leave (which I think that he has) I don't think that it would make it much easier either.

The similarities with Boak are strong aren't they? Both surfcoast kids with very strong family ties pulling at them, both the biggest name and most crucial at the two South Australian clubs, both courted heavily by Geelong, both at clubs in crisis and hour of need, both delaying apparent 50-50 decisions until the very end. Both clubs suffering a tragic unexpected death of one of their own.... The difference of course being, Boak had just recommitted before the PA tragedy, whereas Dangerfield has to make the call afterwards.

Boak perhaps would have had greater sympathy for leaving (to return to his mother and sister who were without his father who had passed away). He stayed with his battling "basket-case" and became a hero, elevating his personal game, leading his young team, and helping to turn around their team and club fortunes.
Dangerfield, if he elected to stay, would become the second surfcoast-to-sa hero. Sticking by his club after the shocking death of their coach and helping to lead them to what he feels they can become.

Part of me thinks Danger would love to be the hero.
But he's also a strong-minded person who clealy can't be pressured into anything before time. And his love and closeness to his family and his home region pours out of him.

Boak's last minute act means Adelaide fans won't give up till the end. And Pies and Hawks etc fans wont give up hope either because for every 9 out of 10 speculation ticks, there will always be the hope of the Buddy-GWS-Blindside.

PD would know that they're a finals chance. And that all this conjecture traditionally hasn't been good for a sides fighting it out for a finals spot. He's also be more than aware that given the tragedy they've lived through , him resigning would be a massive boost to a group of people he loves.

And honestly does anyone really believe he hasn't thought about this decision? Sorry but he's known for 2 years this was coming. And the Crows have been trying to extend his contract for the best part of 2 years. Those that know paddy will tell you he's a VERY switched on kid, just like his dad john. They're savvy men. He knows exactly what he's doing.

The reality is that he legally can not come out and say anything except -

1. I'm staying

2 I haven't decided anything else gets him de registered as an afl player.

I know he's from Moggs Creek, and I assume that's close to Geelong, but wouldn't most Victorian clubs satisfy the requirement of being closer to home? It's not like the guy is going to move back in with his parents after all...

No. What you imagine and read in the papers is completely different to the everyday reality an AFL player lives. I could go into detail about the fact that non ones gonna sign unless they know who the coach is, or that certain personalities within a list don't always see eye to eye. Or that it's documented and known by most in the industry that PD and campo suffer each other at best.

Also, what posters like you forget is that players are all too aware of what a business it is. If you're in doubt about that - re wath last nights 360 and take in goddards comments - clubs preach loyalty but as soon as you're no value to them they cut you off at the knees. -

Adelaide will delist 4 or 5 players this year. They won't keep them on the list because of the tragedy. Paddy knows it's a business and he knows coming to geelong now makes him a geelong legend for life. The hero coming home to save the club.

And imagine if - with a Selwood, another preseason into Duncan caddy and blicavs, a fit j Selwood and danger - we get a good year out of Clark, Hawkins, Stanley Taylor and lonergan. Well just about win a flag. That's a huge carrot.
