Would Danger want a two year deal at this stage of his career?

He's flying at the moment but he's a crash n bash. The end can come very quickly and unexpectedly. I would have thought the security of a long deal would be a priority.

He will sign a 2 year deal after the season ends. Then if he wants to go home in 2 years when an unrestricted FA he has the media line - last time I waited till the end of the year and will wait again. Cant see him going atm.

Two years also lines up with next Broadcast deal?

From his point of view, if it's not affecting his or the teams football, there really isn't a hurry. He knows even if he tears every ligament off the bone in both of his knees, he is still getting a good long term contract from somewhere, it probably won't even affect the contract he is offered, if he does it now or later the contract will be the same. But for the club it's much better if he does it early so they can move on to the next player/players knowing how much money they have left.
I reckon they'd know now, as we've seen clubs are into players 12 months out.

We have money to spend regardless of whether he stays or not. This is the new 'switched on' AFC after all

This is also where I see Geelong coming into it, he would want this to be his most lucrative contract and if he chose crows he would be here till near the end. He did say though last year he doesn't agree with long term deals, see how it goes this time?

Channel 9 exclusive May 2014 at Moggs Creek

Kym Dillon said from off camera conversations his plan then was to sign a 2 year contract extension at the start of this year, that was before Sando got sacked.

He would only be 27 I think? He could then sign a 5 year mega deal - interestingly the TV rights and Salary cap are to be reviewed in 2 years so it may be in his best interests to only sign on for 2 years if his management expect a big increase in TPP.

They don't even have a pub!

If he's fit and firing he could

I still think the best way to get compensation for Free Agents is:
  • players can nominate for free agency transfer after X years
  • choose which club / state he wants to go to
  • try and organise a suitable trade
  • if no trade is sorted, then the player goes into the National Draft and the ex-team receives the pick straight after the FA player is picked up
Why wouldn't that work? (Sorry Sanders I know you see this as daft)

In Danger's case (if he was leaving to Geelong) ... Geelong would be trying to come up with a trade that was better than a low first round pick to satisfy AFC, AFC would be happy with anything above the 1 first rounder because they would definitely get that if no trade was sorted. Geelong would not drag the trade period out in the hope of ruining Crows trade options as AFC can just say no and take it to the draft.

If Geelong say "no trade - we will just put an enormous contract on his head and get him with pick 10" - no worries - they still have to pay for Dangerfield in both Cap Space and by losing a first round pick. I don't think they would risk it ... because other teams would be brought into the battle un-necessarily as far as Geelong are concerned.

Even here he doesn't sound like he'd stay and that's 14 months ago.

He certainly sounds more committal there than he does now.

"I'd like to be (re, A one club player), have to consider options"

"Bond is strong with Rory, Otten, VB etc."

"Great relationship with Sando"

He was listing off reasons as to why he would potentially re-sign.

All he really does now is say "Haven't thought about it, I've got time, AO is noisy, love the club but love the family"

As much as the individual is never as big as the club (see Mods), we are in a position where the club simply can't take the hit of its franchise player walking out the door.

Turn back a month and we got to continue what we were building then sure maybe, but we now have to start again on field at least. We've all seen his last month, he would be leading our BnF right now. We can't afford to lose that, there's no player in the league that can provide what he can, as a player and an ambassador.

I'd be very surprised if Dangerfield leaves... i dunno, but, i just can't see it at all.

I'd be very surprised if Dangerfield stays, if he's staying there is no reason why he couldn't have done it months ago....I'm not buying he still hasn't made up his mind either by the way. To his credit it can't be argued he's not leaving everything he's got out on the field game day which again can be read one of two ways depending on what side of the fence your sitting.

In the end only one of us will be right.

If Dangerfield decides to leave - what we get in return will have nothing to do with Dangerfield. AFC will decide on that. No way Danger steps into negotiations on behalf of his ex-club and tries to get a better deal for them. If he flicks the switch, we do what is best for us. He will do what is best for him.

Its not a matter of Danger getting involved with the negotiations. Its a simple request from Danger to Geelong saying "if I do come to Geelong I don't want the crows to be screwed". That's all he has to say.

If Geelong take that type of attitude then it will remove the possibility of Danger going into the PSD as well. If Geelong play hardball then the Crows need to match the offer.

He's look like a right royal wank if he does indeed go to Geelong and it comes out that he agreed on it 9 months ago (a la Buddy!).

Thats exactly right, I have mentioned this plenty of times the style of game he plays will not allow him to be playing deep in his 30s.

A 2 year deal that could really backfire in his face, especially when he can easily get a 5,6 or 7 year deal with any Club. It is very poor business management if he signs a 2 year deal and stays here with us.

He already has put himself ahead of the team by leaving it this late imo.

They asked Sloaney about the Dangerfield speculation with his manager on Triple M, I believe (on the radio anyway), and he said that sometimes he'll watch some of Sunrise before training and that he saw a news snippet at the bottom of the screen which read "Dangerfield meets manager", to which he texted Dangerfield about it and said that he didn't realise Danger had never met his manager. At least Sloaney is seeing the funny side of it all.

I had one of those light bulb moments this morning under the shower.

I've been reasonably confident up until recently that Danger would want to remain a one club player work towards a flag with his mates etc etc

However the light bulb turned on this morning. He was saying at the beginning of the season that whether he stayed or went depended on the performance of the club because he wanted to play finals. Now that we are a chance to do just that and Geelong look like they won't, that argument doesn't hold any water and it appears that he has just chucked that reason for delay out the window.

Now he never ever mentions performance - it's all about family (footy club family) v family (blood rellies) and as we know blood is thicker than water. A totally different reason for the delay in decision but one that has some validity whereas the original one doesn't.

What hit me like a ton of bricks is that Danger will change reasons just to defer any decision until the end of the year - because he has already made up his mind to leave.

Hopefully I've had a mental short-circuit rather than seeing the light but that's my latest opinion. The words I'm hearing now are Ablett words and Buddy words - and we know what happened there.

If I'm wrong - thank god for that.

I'm not going to make a prediction one way or the other because it's all too confusing, but the significant change in collective mood today compared to a few days ago is staggering to witness.

Would really like some assuring words from sanders and Alex just to say that their mail is strong and are still very confident...
