Ryder's flaw is he isn't good enough to be a full time ruckman. I think they will just play Dixon as the designated full forward. He is a monster though. I do think Port are edging on too tall now. They have Westhoff, Trengove, Lobbe, Schulz and Ryder. If they get Dixon and get rid of Schulz I am not sure they have solved their problem. I don't think he suits their list needs.

What?

Ryder was/is an absolute A grade ruckman, and, has been for the past 2-3 years. He's not a good forward, despite, belting us.

He's only a good forward when he's playing in a 'big' game. When it's just a regular game he is hopeless up forward.

It's more if you match him up with a defender that can match him physically, he's useless.

Lever is not that person yet.

I wonder if Port would trade out Lobbe?

Ryder No 1 ruck, Dixon main forward.

Getting rid of Lobbe would free up cap space plus give them a trade bargaining chip. Gold Coast probably wouldn't want him (have enough tall timber) but someone would.

He is signed to 2018 so he has to agree and would be interesting is Lobbe is popular amongst the team

Is this the same sam maclure that last year said cooney to the Roos just needs the paper work signed

Hey guys
I think this is the year hard calls on players is needed. Hendo, Lyons, Mackay, kerridge. We need to trade and get as many draft picks under 35 as possible. Draft some young kids with good kicks and speed. We have a good young list but need some more mids coming through.
Every year they say the draft is weak and after 30 it drops off, but it's bullshit.
At the moment, our most exiting and better players are laird and Cameron, they were rookie all clubs overlooked. Our recruitment has been good lately and I think with 3 or 4 more youngsters, we'll be ready to have a realistic chance at a flag in 3 or so years.
Going on like this is going to be mediocre for another 5 years. I'm sick of hard decisions never being make and going on without a real hope of doing some damage in the finals

Sam McClure tells us Fremantle are out of the race for Charlie Dixon... He wants to go to Port Adelaide with Ken Hinkley
Thanks. Sam McClure doesn't strike me as a credible source.

If Port Power throw it all in for Dixon I will laugh for days on end. Injury prone player who has shown glimpses of potential but plays a good game once every 3 or 4. Not worth the $750k per year he will cost and the first round pick (and some...). They'll also have to shed some players which flies in the face of the "we're a club, not a corporation" nonsense that they trot out every couple of days.

Anyway, 2015 has come crashing down for Port Power after all the grandiose pre-season hubris, not to mention the messiah (Ryder) who is costing an arm and a leg, so it's feasible that they'll get desperate and do something crazy like this.

I really hope it happens.

About 5 years ago I suggested we needed to get rid of Reilly and Griffin when they had decent seasons and load up with picks 20-30. I think it's the year we pick Smack but in that 20-30 range were some very good players.

So after this weeks dismal selections im predicting a few of our fringe players will ask to be traded at seasons end. We would rather have players like vb, wright, mackay, martin and henderson on the list rather than kerridge, grigg, crouch, otten, lyons and cey it seems.
What do these players demand realistically?
Heres my take.
Grigg- a pick in the 30-40 range
M Crouch- a pick in the 20-35 range
Otten- late 30s
Kerridge- 30-40 range
Lyons- late 30s to early 40s
Cey- 25-30s.
Teams will take advantage of our crop of young stars out of contract and not getting games when our shit players get free rides and excessive contracts.

There's no way Port could afford Dixon and what he'd want when they re-signed Polec/Gray/Lobbe earlier this year/late last year, plus the decent contracts of the currently signed Wines/Wingard/Boak, not to mention the sizeable Ryder contract. The AFL should investigate their side deals for any Tippett-esque stuff going on if they can fit him in. Wouldn't believe a word of what that numpty McLure says anyway.

Agreed, unless they move on some players they have no chance.

I maintain that Port have got space in their salary cap and were bullshitting. It was only 2012 that they were utter garbage and would have been struggling to reach minimum cap for their averagely performing players. They would have definitely front-loaded some contracts during that time and into 2013. Contracts which they would be living out now, and enjoying the back end of those deals.

Contracts that would need to be renewed soon then?

Next year or two (or three), depends how long they were for. From memory Gray, Ebert, Boak, Westhoff and a few others on long term deals.

Gray re-signed this year didn't he? Pretty sure Boak has one more.

Don't know about Ebert and Westhoff. But they have in recent years recruited Polec, Monfries, Ryder and White. Ryder the most expensive but the others would not be cheap. Then there is Wyngard, Trengove, Wines and Carlisle all on or will be demanding decent money.

Can't see how they can possibly afford another big contract.
