Would definitely take Bennell. Confident we can turn him around, our culture here is stronger than GC imo with the addition of Lambert etc.

Be nice to have a top 5 draft pick with so much talent wanting to come over.

As an aside, I thought the notion out of the club last year that we were only interested in A graders was unnecessarily limiting and poor list management. As it turned out, by picking up Robinson, it probably showed it was a throwaway line designed to make supporters feel good rather than any sort of golden rule for the club's list managers. I'm glad I haven't heard the same rhetoric this year.

Every premiership side has more "B" and "C" graders than A graders. However you classify players, no side is completely full of stars. You need role players. You need solid contributors. Salary cap dictates that you can't have the league's best players in every position.

It is ultimately about the balance of your list and the balance of your best 22. We don't have a single mature key forward on our list. If we can get a B or even C grader to play a role, then it could well help the rest of the side improve. That's a positive. And if they turn out to be a dud, we really haven't lost a lot (depending on what we give up in a trade).
AGREE. casboult would fill a need for a few years while young keys develop. and bonus, maybe he turns out to be another tom hawkins, there were a lot of similar knocks on him early in his career.

I want Leppa to come out and say hands of Martin, he is a untouchable. Not the bloody CEO. That's not the CEO's job, but we are so lucky to have Swann. Thanks Carlton for Robinson and Swann. Two great gets.
I'm confused. I wasn't aware it was Leppas job to have a press conference whenever a bloke is rumored to want out. Get a bloody grip.

On the Bennell point. Say we were interested in him, we have no currency. It would take whatever picks we get for Redden and Aish to get the deal done for Bennell. I don't see it happening.

By the way A grade talent don't want to come to Brisbane, unless we overpay them above their true value. Our best chance to get A grade talent is to develop them within and bring experienced players that can play roles or have been undervalued.

Sydney have been the masters at this. They target the right players that are under valued and bring them to their club. We have done this with Robinson and Bundy.

I saying their is plenty to work with in regards to Bell and Casboult. It's not like they have been playing in the VFL or have been playing poorly. They shown signs and improved as players to suggest they can contribute to our best 22. Best of all they won't cost us the Kitchen sink.

We clearly have the talent and we are stockpiling elite talented kids like Keayes, Hipwood and Schache. We just need to add couple of experienced players alongside them so they can develop properly and sign them on long term contracts so we can retain them.

I dare say, you have made a lot of assumptions. Let's get the proven A grade talent speak for themselves. If we get our own backyard in order ( employment of people such as Lambert) ,Why not? If we prove that we have the right people in place and the right culture ,why not have a red hot go.If we have space in our salary cap, then use it. Why buy a holden when you can buy a Mercedes. If you want the best ,you get what you pay for. You want to be middle of the road team ,spend less.Simple.

Do you know exactly what Bennell will cost us? Because I certainly don't ,that's between the two clubs to decide ,what is fair and reasonable given His circumstances. His he worth having a go, absolutely. Brisbane should not leave any stones unturned when it comes to A grade talent.

Are guys like Keayes, Hipwood and Schache worth the risk .Absolutely. Are they proven at AFL standard yet ? Time will tell, so don't assume.

To win a Flag you need the right mix of talent. I agree the best way to stop the go home factor is to develop from within, hence the academies. But you can not have a list solely based on academies alone.

If your suggesstion is that Robinson and Bundy were under valued by their clubs you are completely wrong.Robbo would still be at Carlton , if it wren't for his indiscretion and Bundy wanted to leave , Geelong wanted him to stay. They are not and were not undervalued players at all, in fact they are very good players I stated before ( regards lying to you employer is not a great look ) my thoughts on Robbo. I never stated once he was a bad or so so player. His attitude at Brisbane surprised me and that I dip my hat to him.

Ahh yeah I reckon it is the CEO's job. Or the President/chairman. Never heard Buckley say hands off Beama but we heard a lot from Eddie.

A least with Bennell you know what you are getting. It would be one of those situation whereby you take a punt understanding that it might not work out but if he does turn his life around the reward would be high. I am assuming he could be picked up in the PSD?
We applied exactly this logic in 2009. The difference then was that we had just played finals and the addition of a talented bad apple could have taken us deeper into September.
We are far from that now and the risk outweighs the reward.

The coach isn't even the one is charge of list management in most clubs these days anyway.

I never said to hold a press conference. It's not the CEO's job to inform the media that Martin is a required player and will not be traded. That should be Leppa's or Schwab's job.

Lol you must be confused. The CEO is essentially a mouth piece for the whole club. He speaks on all issues involving our club.

You do realise what a CEO is, right?

Why would the Chief Environmental Officer be talking about player retention?

I believe hes going to announce the building of a dam wall around the Gabba that will be used as a retention device as it prevents the players escaping.

Just leaving these here.

GWS CEO David Matthews said Boyd would not be released from the final year of his contract to join the Bulldogs.

"With Ryan Griffen indicating he will seek a trade to the Giants, we are in discussions with the Western Bulldogs," Matthews said.

"We have been clear with them that despite any speculation or interest, Tom Boyd will not be traded under any circumstances.

Asked about Richmond’s interest in Motlop on SEN radio today, Richmond chief executive Brendon Gale said: “He’s certainly quick, isn’t he?”

“We’re a reasonable footy team when we’re up and going and we’ve got some work to do and we think we can definitely add to our list over the next couple of years.

Pressed further about reports of their interest in Motlop, Gale said: “we’ll be looking at all players who can add value to our list”.

PORT Adelaide has been given a massive boost after Paddy Ryder and his management declared it was the Bomber’s first choice for next season.

Power chief executive Keith Thomas yesterday said it would seek to do a deal that benefited both clubs.

“I’m very hopeful that common sense and fairness will apply,’’ Thomas said. “Certainly from our point of view, we’re very respectful of all of those situations and Essendon’s position

Yeah i tend to agree, Bennel is nott he difference between success and failure for us at this stage.

If it pays off we have another top level talent who will be easily best 22 (and 1/22th of our nesxt finals side).

If it fails, we could be looking at our own drug scandal. Yeah maybe, Leppa, Rocky and Lambo are up to the task of keeping this kid on the right track, but why risk it andw hy make their job deliberately harder. The Lamberts are about engaging with our young players, not baby-sitters for the biggest character risk since Fev.

NB- I was against bringing Mitch in too.

Eddie works in the media.
He's also President of the Collingwood football Club and uses the media to push that agenda. I wish to a point that our Football Director and Deputy Chairman borrowed some plays from that book.
