Hot tip - Don't look in the Zac Clarke thread then.
Haha - if the recruiting team and the coaches think he's the right option then go for it. They know a hell of a lot more than me! If he ends up with us I'll support him all the same - he's just not a guy I'd personally chase.

I've not seen much of him but I can't say I like what I've been reading in the last 10 minutes. Interested to know other people's thoughts?

I really, really, really don't rate Clarke. Every time I see him play I see a very average ruckman (hidden by being secondary ruck) who offers very little as a forward. Not a fan.

Every time I've seen him play I've thought that he shows promise but lacks intensity.

I think the idea that the ruck position can be filled by anyone - rookies, untalented late draft picks, gorillas - and that we shouldn't spend high draft picks on them, is going to change drastically in the near future. Talented rucks are going to be highly sought after as the position changes from gorilla vs gorilla to tall, athletic midfielder show downs.

The fact is that the Minson types are doomed and if you manage to find someone young like Grundy or Nicholls or Blicavs; that can be effective around stopages, around the ground and in the ruck; then you pay them well and lock them in long term.

I reckon the ruck position will be harder to fill than tall forwards as the game evolves. Best we fill the need while we can.

What would it take ot get Dangerfield, crows have said they are considering trading with others if Geelong doesn't offer what they want.

But Will says Cape Grim beef has turned his form around. Gone back to eating meat again.

Love his athleticism. Can catch it. Has had the security blanket of never having to be the main man. I wonder if giving him that opportunity might help him blossom?

For those interested, some Clarke stats from the 2015 Prospectus writeup (i.e. 2014 statistics):
  • Lowest hitout-to-advantage rate of any ruckman in the competition to play at least five games
  • Had a clearance differential of -12.8% - third-lowest of the top 125 centre bounce attendees
  • Won 21% of offensive one-on-one contests
  • Rated "average" for a ruckman for disposals and goals
  • Rated "poor" for a ruckman for hitouts and score launches

His physical attributes and skill set are perfectly suited to our current game plan, so it all gets down to what's going on between his ears in my view Panna.

So he's got room for improvement? Let's get him ;)

I'm not a fan either. Doesn't have any great appeal for me.

Some on the Dockers board mention he is the whipping boy !
Thank god was starting to think we will have none left after this draft .

I'd take him for a third round pick I suppose, but not at 530k a year for three seasons (as is suggested in the thread for him on this board)

If I did take him, I wouldn't necessarily give him first shot at the number 1 role either. Bit of an inbetweener really, not deadwood but not that good either

More management point of view but Josh Fraser is returning from the Gold coast after two years head coach of their reserves side, wouldn't mind him at a coaching role for Footscray working alongside Edge and Hansen.
Could help develop our VFL ruckman

As far as rucks go what is lobbe from port contract situation I think port will looks to free up space for Dixon and prob could afford to lose a tall

Contracted, and recently told by Hinkley that he's a required player.

Not that those words mean much anymore these days.
