Hmm..maybe. Aish will have the option of re-signing with the Brisbane Lions after the conclusion of the trade period, if he wants.

Decent for Collingwood certainly. Decent for Brisbane? Matthews says no.



Keep Pick 7 and pick Aish up there in the National Draft for nothing. Isn't that preferable to a trade with Brisbane? There's no need to wait until Pick 25 or Pick 27 is there? After all if Aish is worth that, then he'll still be available when that pick comes round.

The real question for Brisbane is where a second round pick rates in comparison to the value of sending a message to the next 10 Aishs, their managers, and the clubs who are trying to poach them for unders after we fund their apprenticeships.

Brisbane don't win trading Aish for a second round DP. Therefore there is little point in doing so.

If for arguements sake Collingwood are able to offer pick 20 for Aish, and Brisbane refuse, your club will effectively be choosing to lose Aish for nothing over the 20th best player in the draft. I just don't think that will happen.

Matthews et al don't see it as "nothing". There is a bigger context here that goes beyond the microcosm of one particular trade. As that bigger context doesn't specifically involve your football club, you are forgiven for your solipsism in not seeing it.

I guess a message can be interpreted in different ways. Certainly understand your frustration but believe that longer term remedies are neede to correct club culture. Leigh is a legend who deserves to be respected for his views. At Collingwood we remember his time at our club, both good and bad.

Yes, and these these are also being put into effect, and aren't mutually exclusive to making a strong stance with Aish.

Only if it what we give up isn't too much. Right now there's a big difference of opinion on what Aish is actually worth.

Whether we meet Brisbane's demands are a judgment for the club but it's pretty clear what Brisbane want atm is too much for us and so Aish will go into the PSD. We may or may not get him for nothing but the only way we really lose out is by giving up something stupid like next years first rounder (assuming we actually have it) for him.

Considering that this was my immediate, and lasting assessment of the situation... I would likely feel smart, vindicated and if the trade is a good one... satisfied.

Then obviously if there is no agreement, there is no trade. From there a number of things could happen.

1. Brisbane receive a "good trade offer" from another Melbourne based club that they would be happy to accept. They ask James Aish if he would like to be traded to that Melbourne based club. He can agree or not agree. Maybe Carlton or Hawthorn would have some trading currency in regards to Brisbane.
2. James Aish re-signs with the Brisbane Lions after the conclusion of the trade period. The Lions would regard that as a win.
3. James Aish nominates for the draft and hopes that, on current draft position, he is overlooked twenty-four times, before Collingwood's first likely pick.

We could pick up Aish for nothing in the draft, if no trade occurs. Players nominate for the draft knowing they can be taken by any club. I wouldn't put it past Matthews and Swann to threaten this outcome over the next two weeks.

Interesting, isn't it? I mean, it is pretty irresponsible to commit to buying something that you can't afford right now (2015 draft picks) nor can you purchase on credit (2016 draft picks). A buyer seeking to enter into this transaction in good faith would surely do so knowing that they'd be able to pay for what they want to purchase.

Unless, of course, the buyer never intended to enter the negotiations in good faith.....in which case, the seller is probably entitled to tell them to GAGF.

To be honest I barely know who he is. For me it is more about the refusing to trade stance. I just don't think it is the right way to go but certainly respect your right to support your club's stand.
