This is unrelated to the fact that he wanted to leave to play first choice ruck...
We did push him out the club so we could get a high second round pick for him. If the club knew that if we got pick 39 for Leuy months out, they wouldn't let him go through FA. They would of tried to convince him to stay. The other poster is saying is that we should of made an effort to make him stay and if he decided to go the FA, the club should of monitored the deal very closely with the AFL to determine what band of compensation we got. The club handled it in a very sloppy manner.

Mate, I'm glad you're not running our club. $450-500K a year to have a reserves ruck?

Imagine what Grant from the dogs would get as our key forward.

Yes I have/do. I prefer honesty. Employees respect that more than snake oil salesmen.
But what if you were actually a snake oil salesman with low self esteem. Wouldnt a few white lies help?

Big Lion, you're also assuming Leuenberger is an idiot. I've met him and that he is not. He would absolutely know that he's the backup. Being dropped for Martin would tend to make that obvious.
Funny mate i've meet him too, seemed a nice bloke and very happy in Brissie. Good work places would get around things like this, we stuffed it up, polish it anyway you want the proof is in pick 39.

Would need to be more on the dollar front but that's the gist of it. Other clubs can sell that exact same scenario why can't we. Would rather have Leuy as back up than pick 39. It's called managing your staff or in this case players, sell the dream, not the nightmare.
Of course other clubs can't sell out of contract ruckmen of his calibre on playing more than 50% of the season in the reserves. Which clubs do you think would be able to sell him on that?

Managed many footy clubs?

Incidentally would you be as critical if we'd got the pick 21 as compo?

Not happy with losing Leuey. Just gotta hope we get 4-5 more decent seasons out of Stef and we have someone to take over after that.

That doesn't have anything to do with Leuey wanting to be the primary ruck.

In fact, effective people management means letting him go and do that somewhere.

You're not showering yourself in glory here.
Really chief, so if Martin goes down which history suggest will happen what happens next, oh thats right pick 39 will ruck, its all good. If we managed it right Leuy would be waiting for his chance to shine.

Ha i see what you did, very good.

Have you ever run staff? It's not lying it's selling the positives rather than focusing on the negatives. Glass have full or half empty. Good work places can handle this scenario. We in this case didn't. Pretty clear cut to me.
No, it's lying. It's really deceptive and exactly why we have to have unions, because managers like that **** their staff over.
I think the club probably took a more honest approach, or more to the point, Leuey could see with his own eyes that he'd been overtaken as #1 ruck.
He knows he can't fill a spot as forward/ruck and knows that he can get that job elsewhere.
I'm guessing you're "running staff" at a Macdonalds or similar where your poor exploited staff are more gullible and defensless than grown ups. Shame on you.

Nah, probs Trent West actually.

No he wouldn't. Still, you ignore the fact that Leuey didn't want to "wait around for his chance". He has his chance, straight away, guaranteed at Essendon.

Cheap shot champ. No funnily enough i haven't run a footy club but i do run staff it doesn't matter your point is redundant because business is business the same rules apply whether you are selling cakes or running footy clubs, manage your staff well it's an area where we as a club need to improve.

I'd have to disagree, because there is quite a lot more money in football. Also, you can sell cakes indefinitely, but you can't play football much further than your mid 30s at most, especially if you're a ruck.

Have another crack.

You betcha it is. Stop feeding members sh!t and run the damn club properly. How we went from being such a power house to this is beyond me. Amateur hour. Pick 39 for Leuy..........fm.

Essendon were/are interested in Leuey as a free get and couldn't give a stuff about how we came out of it - why should they?

When we grabbed Moloney do you think we gave a fat possum's thingamejig what Melbourne got?

Not a cheap shot at all. I've managed staff in service stations, video stores and in the public service. Two totally different workplaces. I've never managed a footy club either, but I imagine again it's different again. How do your staff feel when the things you've been telling them about don't eventuate?

You are talking as though you know everything about everything. I freaking hate those people. The staff at the club aren't perfect, but I operate under the assumption that they know more as a whole than anyone who posts on BigFooty.

So what was a guy who played a lot of 2s and when he did get a crack at first ruck, didnt really shine this year worth?

Posted this 15 minutes ago... anyone?
I agree, obviously we all wanted a pick in h e 20's minimum for Luey, but once we were only given 39 compensation it was our best option to take it. Better than getting nothing.
