Traded James Aish [traded to Collingwood for #26 and St Kilda's 2016 second round pick]

Worthy of 2 second rounders or mainly potential atm?

Now? There's barely a fraction of drafted players worth within a round of the pick that they were taken at after two years. Look at the difference between Redden (traded for 17) and Aish (likely traded for a pair of second rounders within spitting distance of 17). No way anyone can argue Aish has been more productive than Redden.

However over the course of his career you'll still be getting a bargain IMO. So yes, potential, but there's no indication that he's not going to live up to it. Work ethic has been fine, two injuries but both aren't concerning ones (jaw, finger), so no long term issues. Can play. I'd take him over any midfield prospect in this year's draft if he went into the ND, simply because you can be pretty certain he's not going to be a bust.

Contracts are like Saloon doors, they open both ways and sometimes need some WD-40 to stop the squeak. And you can see peoples heads and ankles but nothing else. Also made of wood.

Im not sure where I was going with that analogy.
It was a flashback to a bad dream where the cowboy Leigh Matthews came of his high horse in Brisbane tumbleweed town and entering a saloon to buy his best mate Robbo a drink while Caro is featuring as showgirl.

You disgust me.

The initial stance was provided to James in his exit interview. It's why he took so long to make up his mind because they were deadly ******* serious when they made the statement so Pickering and Aish needed to sit down to discuss the likelihood of getting to where he wanted. It was well before Collingwood entered into things.

Selling it as Leigh/ Brisbane v Collingwood/ Pickering is good for the papers when in reality it was far from that. It's been fun to speculate on and get the banter going, but each party will win out of it. Except North...

Nothing to lose, really. It would be nice to get him, but it will be fine to take the picks if Basti gets to the Lions too.

Pickering said he expects the mooted deal to go through.

Pick 26, Bell - Brisbane.
Pick 24 - Carlton.
Aish - Collingwood.

Probably a win / win deal as you get.

Allows Brisbane to get a player compensation & have a pick for acadmey points.
Allows Carlton to get a pick around the mark they would for Bell.

Pick 24 - 785 points, Pick 26 - 729 points. Total - 1514 points. Falls between Pick 8 / 9.

Collingwood paying fair value for Aish.

Pick 22/24 is around the mark on what Bell is worth.

Where did he say this? Link? Hope it's the trade

What if Bastinac moves for a single pick in the 20's? As it is though it's only a loss on this deal. You've already won the deal of the trade period with yesterdays move on Anderson, IMO.

Helps to already have a good trade in the bag, for sure. Coming off a couple of pretty good seasons, keeping everyone we want to, and bringing exactly the kind of player we need to improve, already feels like North is ahead. Aish is well worth a shot, but not the end of the world either way - same for Collingwood, really.

I can see us offering 17 or 21 in a trade that nets us Bastinac plus some of those 36-40 picks that you're accumulating.

I have a feeling that Bastinac might be the odd man out in this recruiting spree we're doing though. He seems to be a late addition and it may well be that we don't have the list spots given the draft to come.

Pick 17 = 1025 points, pick 21=878 points

Pick 38 & 40=894 points, so pick 17 for Bastinac, 38 and 40 would be Bastinac in exchange for pick 61, 21 would be us giving him away.

I would be surprised if Bastinac is traded unless it involves Aish or some other player. Brisbane is still interested in other players so I am not sure how they are going to do it and retain enough value to match the academy boys who will likely attract some decent bids.

What incentive do we have of moving him for a pick in the 20s? He is contracted for 2 years, we have mids that will retire in 2 years and he is likely better quality than anyone that we will get with a pick in the 20s in this draft.

Aish was recruited with pick 7, Bell is roadkill, that would be horrendous. Collingwood getting Aish for a mid table second round pick is way under. Collingwood wants to pile in other trades into the agreement to mask that they aren't putting in market value to get Aish.

Collingwood are effectively giving Brisbane a points value trade that is between Pick 8 & 9. That is as fair as you are going to get.

Those picks wont make an impact, if the two academy boys have first round bids, 17 and 21 will go first.

Brisbane are trading 17 in the Astbury deal. They need the picks if they want to trade and not be burnt by academy points.

17 for Astbury? Why? He has played 4, 8, 5, 2 and 5 games in the last 5 years. An early third round pick is his value.

I think the problem is Brisbane bleeding good quality players for unders and paying overs for average players, Collingwood wouldn't do terrible deals like that. If Astbury is worth pick 17, Aish is worth pick 1.

Astbury has been kept out by injury hence his game number. The last one was a freak accident stepping on a sting ray. A KPD for a side that is screaming out for one has more value to them than to your side. Also Leppa knows him and can get the best out of him. So while I agree that he is worth less than 17 as a rule, he suits their purposes and he is a great person with leadership qualities. He is what they need right now. So I can understand if he goes for pick 17 or thereabouts.

When I say he is worth a third round pick what I am suggesting is that if he went into the draft Brisbane could likely pick him up with that. 26 year old playing sub 50 games with a lot of injury issues over the years, I think he is definitely worth a punt but Brisbane need to stop trading like clowns.

He is 24 currently. Turns 25 next year. Right in his prime.

My bad, but still, his last 5 years has been pretty spotty with a lot of injury interruptions.

17 for Astbury plus a number of shittier picks going back to Brisbane would be okay IF they got rid of all the more valuable picks, just doing it for one or some would be pointless as their academy picks will eat into the other higher picks first.

If they are going to bring in a lot of other late second, third and fourth rounds picks, which with significant numbers are more valuable than top 10 picks in terms of F/S and Academy bidding, those picks will only be used if they are next best.

Their strategy might be to get some good players in with the better picks and collect less valuable picks, but they should just not pay overs for players or accept unders. Ideally, for Aish they would want a decent player plus some less valuable picks. It is a shame Freeman wants to go to the Saints, he would be the kind of player that would be handy for Brisbane plus some lesser round fodder picks for academy bidding.

I think that is the ultimate problem for Brisbane, they can't really afford to do one or two deals and have the others fall over, they would need to get them all done or not bother.
