We can go into points deficits for those guys too, and because they presumably won't attract first round bids the resulting deficit will be taken off the following year's equivalent round pick.

Having the list spots to be able to take them is another story.

Does anyone else feel like we are going to just totally **** this draft up. I mean we know as fans who we want but I'll just about shoot myself in the foot if we go past schache at 2. I mean i know it looks plain and simple but my confidence in this organization to do something that easy and simple just seems too much for them.

Inb4 francis at pick 2.

Not at all, the club knows what it's doing. If we don't take Schache at pick 2 I will run naked through the Holden centre singing our club song with **** you Eddie written in pink lipstick across my butt cheeks.

Nope. Never been this relaxed about a draft. Schache, Keays and Hipwood just seem like such perfect choices for us.

Very confident we will look back on this draft as a really big one for us.

And if we do take Schache you will use red lipstick instead?

Seems like we'll go in with at least four spots and potentially five, so that leaves at least one or two spots for additional academy kids. Bastinac and further delistings (and trading to maximize point value) will let us know who we're likely to get IMO.

But thats what i mean it just seems to easy.

Why would a straight forward draft period be concerning?

I don't see how we can stuff this up. History will judge us kindly irrespective of how Schache, Keays and Hipwood turn out. They are no-brainer draft selections.

Yeah there is always the "how will the footy gods shaft us this time!" factor but that is always a looming spectre.

But yeah, we are well placed to really get what we need - quality prospects that fit positional needs as well, plus have some sort of emotional/geographic connection to the club.

Can definitely see why you have a "too good to be true" vibe.

Thats my point though.

Was kinda meant as a half joke aswell.

Would it be considered draft tampering if:
  • we delisted, with the intent to re-rookie, enough players to keep all draft picks and the points we might need, up to the last pick with value.
  • Then recontract the players delisted at something like their previous salary.
The point being that we can use all the points we have accumulated

Happened before in the past with a few clubs. It's not that irregular. However it could only be done with players out of contract really.

It's very often done to demote guys on to the rookie list for salary cap reasons. The Saints and Schneider come to mind because of their whinging when it bit them in the arse.

As for senior list examples, they also did it with Blake years ago to get him off the veterans list, and Adelaide did it to someone in the Tippett year to meet their minimum list changes.

I wonder how much interest the Suns have in Keays and Hipwood?

I tend to think they would need to be mindful of how they would like us to treat their academy players who come up as early picks in future years.

I've read we can match up to pick 9. What if, for example, one gets bid on with 6, 7 or 8? Could we match? Worst comes to worst we go into debt for next year and worry about Allison later?
