Firstly, Jack Grimes isn't a 100+ game player. Secondly, he struggles to get a game in a team full of youth (similar to us). Thirdly, by the time we are contending, Roberton, Newnes, Ross, Armo, Steven, Bruce, Savage, Carlisle will be the mature senior heads with 100+ games experience, we do not need Jack Grimes. Fourthly, Jack Grimes will not be a best 25 player for us & if we got injuries, I'd rather play Eli, Acres, Lonie, Sinclair through the midfield anywayI know Melbourne at the time were an average side but Geary hasn't finished runner up in our BnF in 2012 like Grimes did.
It's a moneyball suggestion. A something for nothing pick up. Grimes won't win us a flag but he could a best 22 player or best 25 player in the event of injury to one of our main mids.
Last time i checked we didnt have too many on the list with 100plus games of experience and in their mid late 20's.
Also the last time I checked, finals contenders and premiership sides have those age/experience characteristics strongly represented in their list
So enlighten me as to who you would target as a left field idea that fits the above mould age/experience and won't cost an arm and a leg?!
As for who I'd target instead.... I'd look at blokes in the 23-25 age bracket that would improve the list
