The only case examples from Aussie footy codes are Antonie Kaufusi from Rugby League & Chris Knights from AFL....

Kaufusi managed to play until 2015 after doing his patella tendon I n 2007.

Chris Knights did his in 2013 & came back to play 1 game before rupturing his hamstring tendon in the same leg in 2015

NB: Kurtley Beale just did his patella tendon 2 weeks ago for the Waratahs in the Super Rugby comp. he's been listed at 6-9months

They did say they would not trade pick 5 for Carlisle alone without something coming back.

We traded 5 for Carlisle and pick 14 which became Gresham.

Yeah, Long did his patella slipping while he had a set-shot from memory, back in 96 in the centenary game vs the Cats. He did come back but I think like you said he wasn't his old self.

I would say the one thing that is really holding JOM back is not so much the rehab from the rupture, but the fact that he's battled patella tendinitis since he was 15. There's something in his biomechanics that just doesn't allow it to stay settled & asymptomatic & it's no doubt playing havoc with his rehab & recovery from the actual rupture

Trade radio numerous times said no straight swap for pick 5 as they wanted a first rounder in the draft.

The trade was so agonising and drawn out because we wouldn't cave to the demand of 5 for Carlisle, the exact opposite what patty_vanda posted and used to pot the club.

On SEN draft night, their TAC special comments guy said Gresham was only behind Parish in the draft for a mid.
Considering Parish was gone he said we had done well in getting Gresham.

But hey facts dont cut it when you want to make up complete bullshit just so you can disparage the club and Bains.

Persevering Saint was at the draft and Finnis showed him the list he had on his phone.
Gresham was at pick 7 and White @ pick 14.

I can't remember the date but a few were pissed when before the draft one of our staff said no difference between pick 5-15.

To my mind we were prepared to down grade but didnt want to trade both our 2016-17 2nd rounders which was where the Bombers came out ahead as we probably hoped to get them to give up a 2nd or 3rd rounder to make a trade happen instead of us giving up a 2nd.
That's probably why we were extremely happy to get White and no early bid on Bailey even if Matho, Balic or Bonner may have been higher on our list.
