However, for discussion sake, what about Ty Vickery or Majak Daw

Both would come much cheaper than the asking price opf Jenkins and both could improve in our set up. Both could kick 30 to 40 goals a season and become valuable players with Tex, Lynch and Betts around them.

Wouldn't touch Vickery. I'd take a punt on Daw if we lost Jenkins but he is still unproven.

He has no exposed form being the main man, taking the no.1 defender. He is also a scavenger type player, a 3rd wheel

He is exactly the wrong guy if you want someone to hold up your forward line, and take pressure off the young guys. He's never done it and he's not the type of player to do that for you

If you were being cynical though he might sell a few tickets for you and lift morale amongst your supporter base

I didn't know Ben Brown was in the discussion. Of course he is the more attractive option, but he'd be an untouchable at NM, not worth the wasted breath.

You've probably got a point. There has to be a point where raw production out weighs everything else regardless of the how's and whys.

Our sling shot footy creates a lot of fast turnovers, and space for a quick gazelle like JJ to run into. We saw that 3 or 4 times on the weekend

If he goes to another club he'll make Warwick Cappers move to Brisbane look like a success.

To take it a bit further, if we're valuing what we should pay, we should probably be considering what he can do within our structure.

The market will dictate a high price, irregardless of how we may predict he'd perform as the spearhead of Brisbane, simply because there's a dearth of key forwards. In addition, struggling clubs need that good news signing over the offseason to generate membership sales.

Leaving that aside, it may be true that we wouldn't get the same value out of him in a structure that doesn't have Tex, Eddie, Lynch. But we do have all of those for now. Is there another player that's going to do as well as Jenkins for us if we get rid of Jenkins? I'm not so sure. He might not be a #1, but his combination of size and speed make him a very dangerous #3 or #4. Perhaps a more traditional forward wouldn't do as well, because they wouldn't have the same pace coming back over the top of zones to get the goal square goals.

1 Played in VFL trial against North Ballarat.
2 Foot.
3 Foot.
4 VFL Returned from foot injury. Grabbed a couple of nice marks but generally quiet. -
5 VFL Got through second game back from injury. Needs to find more of the ball. -
6 GCS Late inclusion snagged one goal but quiet for most part. Will get better. 3
7 VFL Struggled to find the footy up forward. Timing of marking was well off. -
8 VFL Couldn’t get into the game at all playing forward. Six tackles, one goal. -
9 VFL One goal from seven touches as lean trot continues up forward. -
10 VFL Bye. -
11 VFL Struggles continue. Three marks and eight kicks in a quiet day. -

There is something to be said for not completing ignoring the market - though I don't believe some of the media speculation - and also for considering his value within our system

Where we need to be careful in terms of value within our system is that we are 11 games into our fast, sling shot, switch and charge, build from the back game style.

We don't know how robust it is, it could be worked out in the second half of the season when we have return fixtures against teams that couldn't work us out the first time

If we need to adapt, there might not be quite so much space to run into and I don't want to pay JJ to run into space that might not exist. Certainly not for 4 years

I'm not convinced he's any better than he was last year, and considering the potential impact of our game plan and the other massive effect of just 2 games on his tally, I'm uncomfortable assuming the paradigm has changed

If he wants to stay, I'm sure we can find a deal that makes sense.

If he wants to max his value elsewhere he should absolutely go and do that.
