We aren't the only club who could offer him success. Perhaps even more on offer from other clubs in 2017 and on (Dees, Saints, Dogs).
He's a business/brand minded chap. He will seek the place to further his brand and fatten his wallet.

We still have great coaching and support staff, front and back ends with great players in and approaching their primes, and promising young midfielders approaching break outs. The only piece that will be missing will be 2-3 elite level midfielders.

Never heard a better and more succinct reason as to why we should now throw the kitchen sink at Fyfe - the Meltdown would be epic - watch the fierce hypocrisy of every team who are going after him. My favourite would be Cats fans moaning about it after they got Dangerfield.

The decline will be brief - particularly if he joins. The pieces are already in place around whoever the 2-3 elite mids who step in.

Saints, Dogs and Dees certainly appear to be on an upward trajectory but they have been at different times for decades. Same with a heap of other clubs.

From 2017 - 2025 Hawthorn would be the club I'd be most confident of winning at least 1 premiership in that time. GWS and Gold Coast will probably account for about 3 flags between them at least. Adelaide, Sydney and West Coast probably good for another 3 between them.

If I was Fyfe and I wanted a good shot at a flag I'd be going to Hawthorn. I'd actually be going end of this year and taking advantage of also having Mitchell, Burgoyne, Hodge and Gibson still around in 2017 (hopefully).

Tiger Ivan Maric is drawing interest from rival clubs

RICHMOND vice-captain Ivan Maric could move into a dual coaching and playing role at another club in 2017 as he weighs up his future in the game.

Maric, who is out of contract and not guaranteed another season with the Tigers, has attracted some interest from clubs who are keen to secure a back-up ruckman.

It is understood the 30-year-old's leadership traits are also drawing interest from clubs looking for a development coach who could play when injury strikes.

The role being floated by interested clubs would be similar to that played by Mark Jamar at Essendon this season.

Former Adelaide, Western Bulldogs and Brisbane Lions ruckman Ben Hudson also joined Collingwood in 2013 as a ruck coach but was on the club's list as insurance, playing seven games over two seasons.

It is believed Richmond, which is developing Maric's cousin Ivan Soldo on its rookie list, is one of the clubs discussing such a role with Maric beyond 2016.

On Thursday, coach Damien Hardwick said a decision on Maric would have to wait until the end of the season.

"That's a list management decision we'll work our way through," Hardwick said.

"Ivan is an important player for us and he probably hasn't had the year that he or us would like.

"He's had some injury concerns across the year and just hasn't really got up and going at any stage.

"But we know what Ivan can do and Ivan at his best is a very, very good AFL player."

Maric, who comes out of contract at the end of the year, missed the opening four rounds of the season because of a back injury.

The 30-year-old was dropped after playing rounds five and six, with Shaun Hampson overtaking him as the Tigers' No.1 ruckman.

Form and fitness issues mean Maric has played just one game since, against Port Adelaide in round 15.

In sharp contrast, Hampson's career-best season was rewarded with a two-year contract extension earlier this week.

A couple of stories going round over here are that he isn't well liked by some of the players & staff, he supposedly has very little to do with most players & that he's a lot more driven for success than most at that club.

Happy to be absolutely pilloried for this, and we have discussed it before on other threads - however if he can come cheaply and on a one year deal (both unlikely) should we throw Cloke a lifeline? We need a tall forward in Rough's absence, and with the players linked to us in the offseason I dare say TOB and/or Schoey may not be on the list next year.

Odds would be against us as I could see teams offering multi-year deals. However, our coaching staff seems to bring out the absolute best in players (Spangher and Lake) so it would be interesting to see what they could do with Cloke, and what he could do in a forward line with other genuine forwards. I'm certainly not actively cheering this on - but under the right circumstances it could be interesting.

The thought of him playing for us is sickening if not very disturbing. He can't hold his spot in what is a very average side. Says all we need to know really.

I'm not for going after Trav but if he came with little cost & we grabbed a mature age ruck as depth then bring on the Smoke & Shaddows...
