Past #3: Jed Anderson - delisted end '22 - 89 NMFC games - go well Jed

I'll go against the grain and say we should pump games into him. Given injuries at the moment we should play him and learn at the highest level.

Clearly lacking confidence or self-belief because he panic kicks/handballs, doesn't look comfortable at the moment. Has pace and campaigner, something sorely lacking in our squad.

Not saying he's in the same class, but I remember when Andrew Mcleod was a highly rated spud. Gained self-belief and turned into a gun.

Jeds an interested one.. I see a lot of potential and i think he works himself into a bit of a frenzy when he gets the ball. When I helped out coaching U16's football I always tried instill to the young fellas that they had a second or two longer than they think to deliver the ball, obviously there are some split decisions that have to be autonomous but not all.

With his pace over the first 5 metres he has the ability to slow up and steady to deliver the ball but he doesnt do this, he runs flat knacker and bungs his kicks. His issues are workable and I think another preseason and with the right direction he can be an integral part of our side going forward

I'm not prepared to write him off yet.

Yes since he has come back he has been rubbish, but let's see if he can have a good preseason and bounce back.

Just looks like a players whose confidence is shot. I actually think we are doing a disservice by playing him at the moment.
I agree with this,a full pre season and no injuries and then hopefully he will improve.

The best way to view it accurately (despite what others suggest) is:

- we used a first round pick and upgraded later round picks for Anderson.
- Brisbane then basically did the same by trading Bastinac for their first and swapping picks.

So essentially:

- Anderson cost us Bastinac, but with the benefit of second round pick changes. (which I'm more than fine with, as I think Lions payed overs which put the ledger back in our favour as part of your 'overarching strategy')

To suggest Anderson didn't cost us a first round pick is simply wrong.
I thought you had it... right up to the last sentence.

We used our first pick as part of that trade, but we didn't end up losing a first round pick when viewed as a whole trading period. I doubt we'd have used 15 if we weren't confident of getting a first rounder back.

Overall no, but that then doesn't take into account what we gave up. He cost us a first, Basti cost Lions a first, and we upgraded picks during that process in savvy trading.

As much as Anderson is way off the pace, I'm more than happy with the overall outcome.

As someone has said, "used", not "cost".

Thread title should be changed to "Jed Anderson - Momentum Killer" He did it against the Dogs and after a couple of goals in the 2nd last night he did it again when he stuffed a promising handball chain when he panicked and fresh aired his handball. Turnover. Goal. Never in the game again.

Not writing him off.......yet.

If he isn't kicking it anywhere or stuffing up, he is falling to the ground for no reason.

He needs time and will be afforded that, but bloody hell he has to improve - I hope he will :thumbsu:

Wowee I have always questioned whether I have a clue, and this seems to prove I don't. I reckon a couple of skill errors were all that was wrong. Not Robinson Crusoe there. Covered the ground well, showed good signs I thought. I still don't get why he gets guaranteed games when so many other youngsters don't, but I think he's gonna be good :thumbsu:

I'd take his 40 metres up, 35 metres sideways kicks compared to the stuff Jed is serving up.

We were right behind his non-handball last night and it just sucked the life out of everyone.

There is not a single excuse for that ineptitude.

Not one.

Harsh on Liam Anthony

Who was that bloke (#19) who was going to be star during the Laidley era? I think his right leg below the knee had been amputated and they replaced his lower limb with a 9-iron. Balding onballer aged about mid-20s. Anyhoo, he'd fit right in these days.

Are you suggesting that a player might learn the ropes at the top level quicker by playing than by getting training tips from boomer?
