Like WB did with Boyd. Nothing wrong with getting a star as long as the SC isn't stuffed. I would have Fyffe for any player on the Saints squad. Wont happen but interesting to get views.

I'd be concerned that said star suffers a long term injury putting us back where we were minus a large chunk of salary cap. I'd much rather have 3 very good players than a 'star'.

TV report said that Steele will go to Saints. Every grand final team has a trend for the following year, and it look like its forwards who can play in the ruck, so it might be curtains for longer as no one wants a player who can only play ruck.

Toyd turned it on as the game wore on but how many touches did he have in the first 1/4? Was Stringer-like horrible, actually no Stringer could at least get his hands on it when he was kicking balls out on the full. Boyd kicked 3 and Swans kept bombing it on his head against smaller blokes but he did well to keep clunking them. Played well but performance was overrated imo.

I may be wrong but there is still no justification for the Boyd trade for me. Peter Wright is already a much better player and would be playing on a tenth of what Boyd got this year.

The Dogs won a flag with heart, amazing depth, luck, and the best coach in the comp. They could lose it by a whisker next year due to something happening like Mumford putting a few blokes to sleep.

Breust kicks that goal, Ward isn't clipped on the chin......

Too many variables to say "works for them"..

Roughead plays all year and we'd be goin "don't need Steele.. CP is horseshit.. look at that fourth flag.."

I don't think you justify the Boyd trade as being no good because wright is good. Plenty of players don't make it but if use hindsight then you get nothing wrong. The Boyd trade certainly helped them win a flag and when you haven't won one for 62 years then the trade is already a winner. If it stuffs up for the next 5 years I doubt any dogs supporter will give a rats

Hotline is Billings again.

This article was posted on here at the time and there was no official word from the club. Can confirm that Tom Lee has NOT signed a deal at this point in time.

I think the reporter might have their wires crossed a little - I'm under the impression Tommy is in the same boat as Dempster and Fisher and will have to wait until the end of trade period before he gets a more definitive word from the club on his contract.

Boyd was the dominant big man over the course of the game, the only other KPP or ruck who you could argue was better was Grundy.

You can show stats to justify why Wright is better and argue about his wage being too high but Tom Boyd got it done when he needed to. Now he is a key cog in a premiership team.

That's the only fact that matters.

I think it was Stav that mentioned Lee & Eli were getting interest from Brisbane. I could be wrong.

Correct. Won't know until post Oct 20.

The conclusion I got from yesterday was to spend all our currency on mids, and not invest on the Marchbanks/McKenzies like I previously thought we should do.

We lost our KPD insurance in Delaney, and probably losing Fisher too we will need someone who can step in immediately.
Carlisle has been mooted to play resting ruck stints, so may not be a permanent CHB fixture. I wouldn't call Roberton a key defender, he's much better 3rd in. Hugh playing AFL Round 1 is unlikely based on his injury, and form. Coughlan has a way to go. Lee is a VFL battler.

Well I recon that a key component of the last 4 premiers is a gun 3rd tall backman... who can read the play and intercept... 3xGibson and now E. Wood. Obviously Fisher did it well for us when we were at the top of the ladder

Seems important part of preventing/limiting the number of rebound goals kicked against.

Also, lets also remember that although their inside mids were great, the outside run of JJ was crucial in the win and crucial in their finals series
