Corr and Steele are both a little injury prone and inconsistent.Yes plenty of up side but haven't proved a great deal yet. If we get the both for pick #10 we've probably doubled our chances at success I guess.

Don't think we're in the field to pick up Hartlett unless Longer is in play which seems unlikely (given his agent's comments)

The top four teams this year have all played 2 x rucks with at least one of them able to play forward a bit - Mumford / Lobb, Stanley / Smith, Naismith / Nankervis / Tippett, Roughead / Boyd.

Should we be doing the same next year with Longer & Hickey (this is essentially a question about trading Longer)? It's just interesting for mine that all the top four finishers had a ruck / forward they could use, whereas we seem to be looking at using Carlisle as our spare.

I just don't see how we fit two rucks into our side with our three talls already up forward. That and the fact that Hickey and Longer aren't great forwards. Think we'"" just have to do with Bruce/Carlisle/Goddard pinch hitting in the ruck.

This is Brendan Schwab's point - that if you have a salary cap, a drafting system is pretty much irrelevant. I think that's particularly the case if you also have a cap on footy department spending, meaning rich clubs can't dominate the talent identification space. It's a pretty strong argument, I think.

The reason we'll always have a draft is that it gives the AFL six extra weeks dominating the sports pages. And we, the fans, love it.

The NFL have a draft system in place too. This, in the country that is (in almost every way) the antithesis of a socialist system. They found it necessary to limit the accumulation of talent into the wealthy clubs - exactly the same problem the AFL was experiencing...

In late 1934, Art Rooney, owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, gave the right of usage of two players to the New York Giants because Rooney's team had no chance to participate in the post-season. After the owner of the Boston Redskins, George Preston Marshall, protested the transaction, the president of the NFL, Joe F. I'm so glad our competition doesn't just have Collingwood, Essendon, Carlton and Richmond playing off in every final series. We have seen several (if not all) of these very clubs cheat the system of salary cap again and again. A salary cap alone cannot work. We need to ensure a fairer distribution of the talent to ensure financial viability of all clubs. The Saints need this more than most clubs.

Tippett and Boyd are forwards first. They help in the ruck. Hickey and Longer aren't forwards so we just cant do that. Anyway our forward line is big enough already so we couldn't possibly fit another forward in there.

Just want to point out that using Draft Guru's trade calculator that Pick #12 for Lee and Picks #24 and #43 values Lee at Pick #64
Pick #64 is really a no risk pick - no-one could argue that Lee wasn't worth a speculator at that price. The trade was important to us because our youth were very thin on the ground at that stage and we needed to snag some talls. An overager like Lee was especially appealing at such a bargain price.

Carlton were apparently keen at the time too. It was Lee, White and Wright for pick 12. Only Wright and Lee left now but Spencer was worth the risk, he looked like his athleticism was amazing just did't have the head in the right place for AFL. We could have had Jackshe instead and he would still be playing VFL if he was on our list anyway.

Aidan Corr's nickname at the Giants is apples and Brian has stated before that we would have taken Corr at pick 12-13 in the 2012 draft before we traded.

Good memory U_W, he did indeed and that was the year when he was in career-best form with his mail (at least since I've known him).

Corr sort of came from no-where late that year. Most on here thought he'd go in the 40's until just before the draft, when news started to filter out that some clubs rated him in the top 10 or 15.

Would we try Billings in Joeys position next year seems well suited to running around on his own off half back.

Joey is playing amazing footy ATM. He's worth persisting with. That's like moving Rooey off the wing to try someone who will be there in the future. Joey third across the whole comp for meters gained. He's very underrated by our fans.

Not sure what to think about Corr, but being quick enough to run the 20m sprint in 2.89sec (elite for his size for sure) is a very appealing attribute, especially as Carlisle and Hugh aren't quick. His leap and quality kicking are also appealing.

he's probably as good as he's going to be now and is no world beater. I see him as a Fletcher Roberts type, no star but he could play a role. I wouldn't want to pay much though, he's like a more modern type back though with decent closing speed.

He's a NEAFL defender and not anywhere near getting a regular spot. How long do they persist with him? Like Kristian Jackshe he's a bit average and they don't need average when they have more high picks and academy kids coming.

GWS clearing up cap, I can see why they are looking to (allegedly) move on contracted players such as Corr & WHE. Both likely on overs as well. WHE rumoured to be on about 400k...

Yeah I wouldn't think he's worth any more than a mid 2nd rounder so I wouldn't want to be having to part with a first in order to get my hands on him.

GWS have so many tall options for their backline it's not funny (Davis, Tomlinson, Haynes, Patful, Himmelberg, Stewart, Finlayson, Mohr and Corr, lol! ), so I can see why they'd be happy enough to let him go, if he's asked for a trade for more opps and he'd probably know that he's got his work cut out to get a game from now on.

If we get him, I wonder if that will be the end for Dempster, or whether he will go there?

I heard the Pies have tempted him away on very big money. WTF are they doing, they have decided not to take Jong and stick with really old guys and disappointing players from other clubs. I reckon they might have ****ed up with Gubby Allen, he seems like a ****ing nut bag.

At 22 and coming off an injury which pretty much ruined your season, you'd still think he'd have some improvement in him yet. Don't think he'll ever be a world beater but still plenty of room for improvement you'd think.

Corr probably only worth pick 40 & Steele pick 20-25 imo.

I'd do pick 10 & future 2nd round pick for Corr,Steele & pick 15 then 15 for Hartlett.

Net loss / gain is pick 10 & future second for Steele, Hartlett & Corr. Add those three onto our list along with Carlisle & our 22 is looking quite good strong.
