After today, don't have anything left mate.
Mate, I have been critical of our mid fielder recruiting for years. But I can see where SOS is going, he is targeting the best plyers for specific positions not just the "best players" as we've done for the last 500 years.
We will be back in the finals soon.
it won't happen over night, but it will happen.

(sorry)

Because Carlton is just going in circles.

I don't care what anyone says, it's pretty damning seeing a former number one pick and one of the club's best players want out of the club in the prime of his career, particularly when all the talk about Carlton has been so positive since Bolton came in.
No we are building a list through the Draft. We will have potentially another three selections in the top 20 odd. Plus Marchbank and Pickett our defence is set for the next decade this has been done in the space of two drafts. When was the last time we could say that? Yes we will lose Gibbs and Touhy who I feel we can easily cover. We will struggle next year and do the same, get another two or three top 20 picks and perhaps a Fyfe via free agency.
Suddenly our three drafts under SOS will have completely overhauled our list. This is desperately needed as we currently have a mature list.

Remember sos built this GWS empire.
He will build ours, more so knowing three sons will be lining up in three years time, just before the dawn of our new empire.
Remember SOS had a truckload of concessions and a never ending number of early draft picks with GWS, something he will not get at Carlton.

All this talk of picks, picks, picks. We're beginning to sound like Melbourne.

I understand the value of draft picks, and it definitely has been good that we've focused on getting draft picks and moving on a lot of the leftovers from the failed Ratten era, but it's not guaranteed that being so extreme is going to work.

The way it is going, we're going to be leaving a young gun in Cripps leading the midfield, and once Simpson retires, where are the other mature aged players to provide leadership at this club? It is a genuine worry.

Next year is going to be completely unwatchable, and god help me if we **** up some of these draft picks.

It's pretty obvious that trading Gibbs was never part of their plans, so there's no point acting like this is going to be a SOS masterstroke.

Great point, so whose the Gibbs equivalent replacement they will bring in if they were hoping he would stick around for 4-5 years?

Quality-wise that's going to be a tough task.

Time for SOS to work his magic.

If GWS want pick 13 then Ahern must be included with Marchbank and Pickett!!!!!

ericpascoe posted late September that the club was aware of Gibbs' desire to move back to SA. While it may be unsettling to some, it's not like SOS has been blindsided. Let's see what he can conjure up as a trade.

Did you see what McKay said? They might have been thinking it was a possibility, but it's pretty obvious the whole thing wasn't part of what Carlton has been planning.

You need to realistic about how bad our list was last year. We had no depth and no youth. What SOS had done in two drafts is completely build a defense. Something we haven't had since SOS was at full back.
We all want quick success but we are building a foundation for sustained success.

100%. It's actually very obvious that SOS has identified both Gibbs and Tuohy as our two most expendable but tradeable commodities, and gone about his business from there.

Both wanted to stay but it was made clear to them that it would be in everyone's best interests for them to "pursue opportunities elsewhere".

I am very confident our net haul at the end of this trade period will form a huge part of setting us up to become a genuine contender down the track.

What are you talking about this is worse than when we let Eddie go over $50-100k
I very much doubt it. Malthouse cost us Eddie playing teacher's pet for Daisy, Eddie didn't initially want to leave, and as you said we let him go over $50k.
Bryce wants out with 3 years to go on a ludicrous contract, so if we don't get decent Compo we'll retain him.

Gibbs pushing it may be a blessing in disguise, though (albeit a good disguise).

Here's a guy who is part club stalwart, part whipping boy, who has never hit the heights we wanted and yet is still good enough to podium in B&Fs and so on. Where Marc Murphy is unanimously voted as leader of the group under two separate regimes, where was Gibbs? Kreuzer is always talked up as a respected warrior within the playing group, but Bryce Gibbs has NEVER been heart and soul Blue-blood leader-of-men guy. Can he play? Bloody oath he can. But he's permanently the "much-maligned" Bryce Gibbs, or the "B+ grade" Bryce Gibbs, or the "former #1 pick" Bryce Gibbs.

Is he taking us anywhere? Is HE leading us anywhere? Probably not, and therefore him being cashed in whilst he has value is THE catalyst for a rebuild bonfire. Out of the ashes could come an all-new Blues list ready to go somewhere together.

He's done well, he's played 200 games (bloody hell!), he's been durable, he's been good, he's occasionally been brilliant... but has he been loved? Has he been inspiring?

I love it. Everything not nailed down must go. Anarchy. Woo.

Agree partially, but as Touhy isn't a Free Agent, unsure how we can get adequate compo for him, yes we can let him walk to the Draft, but we still lose him for zip.

Been hearing all this for 20 years. I'm not getting sucked in any longer. I know where Carlton sit in the AFL and what they once where as well.

Yep we are minnows in every form at the moment. So why should we hang onto the blokes who got us to that status? Gibbs has cruised almost his whole career and has been a key player in every side that have lacked effort the past decade, time to move him on and let the kids look up to Cripps.

Touhy I'm actually way more sad. I'm guessing it's financially related though.
