Yes, but the Mitchell and Lewis trades were not actually trades to benefit Hawthorn; they were trades to get Mitchell and Lewis a superannuation fund.
They simply were our club getting two stalwarts out of the club but giving them a decent return.

The draft picks we got in return were just symbolic.

Aren't we a charitable organisation, particularly for Lewis who has 3 - 4 years of football let in him...

I always thought, and many on here thought he cracked the sads when he couldn't get into the seniors and he thought he was a walk up start.

Rather than fight his way into the team.

We didn't seem interested in having him develop and break in either with only offering him a 1 year contract.
No shit, the amount of times ive stated for a fact that Joey didn't want to go, only to be howled down on here.
Now mabey hearing it from Clarko (the gentle version too) will change some minds.

The fact that Clarkson said he was hoping that Tom Mitchell would be able to learn from Sam Mitchell and Lewis just shows how badly they stuffed things up.
The question never asked in that sychophantic interview was why the hell were you prepared to trade the two best players of 2016 for bugger all?! It's one thing looking after champions, it's another thing to shaft the club.
When he tried to justify this farce by using the Josh Kennedy example, he totally lost any credibility.
The look on his face said it all. He stuffed up, and he was told to come out of hiding and face the music. Never seen him look so unsure of himself.

Oh god no, we're going to get Dustin Martin next year aren't we ... *puke*
if richmond finish bottom 2 (injuries, poor form, being richmond contributing) they will get pick 2 or 3 as compo and wont put up a fight. same goes for fyfe tho more likely to finish higher up the ladder

If Schade is delisted could be an attractive pickup for some defensive depth, has the physical attributes.

Gold Coast supporters seem to be keen to move him on. I haven't seen him play but the fact they don't seem to rate him concerns me.

Club in Crisis they are all yelling from the tree tops.

After watching Clarko interview and listening to Mitch and Lewis on radio couldn't be prouder as a Hawk supporter we are easily the best of the best in terms of setting the boys up for life after football and i feel after all the short term disappointment when the dust settles we may not agree but we will all come to appreciate the actions of the club and players involved.

Proud to be a Hawthorn man and always will be

Correct. So 2 spots available and you need to take 3 selections at the draft. Not sure you need anymore players at this stage.
No. Read the post again. 2 spots available AFTER you factor in three draftees.

It's ironic you have Realist as username with that avatar.

Not to be personal but to ask a genuine question on this point.

Why do you expect it's all a one-way street from player to club? We demand that in order to play for Hawthorn a player must accept less money and accept shorter contracts than that player could secure elsewhere. And you (along with many others) argue that when a player's time is up (either because he can't make the grade or is unwilling to make the sacrifice) that the club should then hold the player hostage to a "good" deal for the club, be damned what the deal means for the player?

We've built a phenomenal, winning culture where players are not selfish. Where they give 100% and never quit playing, even when they know they can't win the match. That so rarely hang their heads when a mistake is made, instead doubling their efforts and playing even harder.

All that is built on a cultural contract. Hawthorn has been living this contract for years and look at the dividends. And when it comes time to pay a little in the form of low draft picks you complain? How will champion players like Gunston who just re-upped on an unders contract behave if they feel the club won't deliver on its end if the bargain?

It just doesn't seem right to me that we think the club doesn't have a responsibility in this championship bargain.

Agree with this 100%.
I feel some on here need a dose of perspective.

Well, when we finish with this trade period having replaced two champions aged 34 and 30 with two budding champions aged 23 and 24, I'll call that a win by any measure.

Plus picking up Vickery, as dodgy as he has been for Richmond, is a good move to fill a critical need.

I reckon this is a spectacular off season that will be the envy of the competition. And the press will wonder how we did it in plain sight.

Lets hope we get Jaeger 1st, Imagine the scenes if we fail to get the deal done.

With Russell, O'Meara, and Prestia going, those spots will be for our three academy boys on draft night. Hanley has just signed, meaning as of right now, there are no spare spots (but Brooksby and Schade look to be delist material, and Matera and Shaw possibly to be traded). Hypothetically, 2 spots available after draftees and Hanley.

It doesn't have to be Hawthorn players though. Lyons from Adelaide is interested apparently. Sending a pick that way may work!
Yeah take the picks and do it yourself

What interview were you watching disagree 100 %?

Screw competing next year, we should just fold. No point going on after this utterly disastrous trade period which will go down as being the worst trade period ever in the entire history of mankind.

This campaigner....its bandwagoner bs like this gives the club a bad name.
I'll happily sit in your seat for finals next year.
