Traded Bryce Gibbs [traded to Adelaide] - (cont. in Part 2)

Minimal time left in his career?

He's 27 and is incredibly durable, having played less than 20 games in a season just once in a decade of league football.

There is every chance Bryce has another 5+ years left in him. That ain't minimal.

In your opinion. I beg to differ. There's also every chance he doesn't.

I think Crows can still get 4 or so good years in him, you make it sound like his injury prone and playing bad football

I think still worth Crows a first Rd pick and a player for next years trade period

Seriously, what all you carlton boys and girls think he is worth is irrelevant. He is worth what someone is prepared to pay. Nothing more, nothing less. Anyway, enough for me.

but that assumes he has the for sale sign on his head doesn't it?

when something is not for sale and you want it then you pay overs unless the seller has dementia or is just very charitable. This is what the majority of you crows just dont get.

Im all aboard the "replace Reid" train, but Roo has been good. Got rid of Trigg, replaced him with a guy who appears to be very good at the job. In the space of two years he found two very good coaches in Walsh and Pike.
With sweet FA in the way of high draft picks we have drafted as good as anyone and we up until last year we had traded quite well.
And in no way in any place was Bryce worth two first rounders.

after roos performance in this trade period then i cant see his value to be honest. Personally think from an outsider looking in that you have to many sa boys in the footy dept leaving much to much power with roo. had the perfect chance to change the balance however took the safe and possibly cheaper option and went with the untried burton - opportunity missed.

re some of your other points - trigg left following his reappointment by the crows board after his suspension. No one got rid of him.

your going the early crow on the coaches arnt you. Coaches cant really be assessed until they complete their first contract i reckon.

your assuming that last years trading was due to roo wasn't noble your list manager?

Yes in my opinion, and I've backed that opinion up with empirical evidence.

Of course that doesn't mean he will play for another 5+ years, but it certainly holds more weight than your 'gut feel'.

Seriously, what all you carlton boys and girls think he is worth is irrelevant. He is worth what someone is prepared to pay. Nothing more, nothing less. Anyway, enough for me.

Thanks for confirming you don't know what you're talking about.

That is only true if the asset is on the market.

If someone knocks on my apartment door and offers me $2 for it, does that make it worth $2?

No, but it certainly doesn't bode well for the credibility of the 'interested buyer'.

As a girlfriend's dad, who is a diehard Carlton man, said to me "I would have taken the 1st round pick and ran, but I reckon we did it to stick it your mob for taking Eddie and Jacobs from us, throw Menzel in there too!"

ah dc generally u do provide good stuff but really your quoting ur gfs dad as having an expert opinion? not upto form old son so back to the training track and improve!

no disrespect is meant to him or yours however there are plenty of diehard supporters (not even sure if he is a paid up member) who are clueless - luckily we have someone like gurusos who is not clueless.

the only residual annoyance from my part re the players mentioned is towards Betts however my annoyance rests with eddie and not the crows. The crows did a great job working on him fro one or maybe even two years beforehand to convince him - good job and well done to u blokes.

jacobs i really liked and tracked his development from the nationals in which he played well against the kruez however we had 4 rucks and unfortunately picked the wrong ones to keep. I was never sure he would have developed with us because we had numerous rucks so its unlikely he would have been the solo ruck like with the crows.

menzel happy to see him g to be honest. was never fit from his game were he played his first 5 minute spell and come off panting like i do when i run a couple of laps. Sad thing is he never improved that aspect. I always put that down to his knee limiting his training loads however perhaps its more an attitude thing.

so in essence the main premise of your experts opinion i just don't buy.

Carlton supporters should be hoping he stays seeing as he's apparently as good as a coach out there on the field to the kids.

Bit of an exaggeration, but sure, an extension of the coaching panel out on the field according to Bolton. If the Crows don't want to pay more than pick 15 and chips for him, then keep him absolutely. No point weakening our midfield and setting back other player's development to get a kid like Gallucci on the list.

I saw a post here that said players like Gibbs are available every free agency period. I'd challenge them to provide a list of the all those free agent mids of Gibbs calibre that have nominated the Crows these last several years. Funny thing about water, it's more valuable where it doesn't rain for some reason.

Since when is an expert opinion required for Big Footy [emoji23]
Carlton people around Adelaide have echoed the same sentiment, which is "Didn't care if he went, but glad we kept him to stick it up you guys" which is fair from a fans perspective given what we've taken from Carlton.
They're also pissed that they're playing Port at Adelaide Oval, they would have loved play the Crows here instead [emoji51]

well the majority of the many blues members that i know were rapt we kept him and didn't give him up for unders.

my point is that blues kept him not to stick it up anyone but rather it was a pure football decision - i know that if the deal was correct then the GURU would have pulled the trigger.

That's cool, a lot of people have a different take on the matter and that's the beauty of an opinion.
And I know clubs do things in the best interests of the club, not to stick it up another club, I think that's been well established!

You have no clue about Roo's role.

He is in the board & not list management staff.

You have been keen to smash his reputation for something he is not even responsible for because you are an absolute clown.

What empirical evidence suggests most players play to 32 years of age?

We get it.

What you don't get is we had our limit to pay overs, which was not high enough, so no deal.

We have moved on, but you go on & on like Crows not selling the farm was a fail... when in fact giving up 2 x 1st rounders for a good but not great player who will be 28 next season would be a huge trading fail.

It's like you are SOS who thought you were going to rip us off big time & now you are sulking because you didn't get a mega deal.

Move on...

it will be fantastic for us however for the crows it will be that infected sore that is resistant to the strongest of antibiotics - they will forever see what they missed out on. Just wonder if dumb and dumber will still be at the crows in 4 years time?
Crows missed out on paying massive overs for a good player...so we don't lose.

Dumb would have been sucked into SOS's crazy demands.

Let's see if the Crows get itchy again next trade period and have another go at getting Gibbs over the line.
Pick 10 to13 in next year draft could be valuable considering the quantity and talent of KPFs and good young players coming out of contract too.
So the Gibbs swap for a Ist rounder may get done yet.

i think i have better handle on his role than you do. Roo is the board member with overall responsibility for your footy department. Roo explained their strategy post trade period - he expected gurusos to fold unfortunately his plan failed and therefore he must take responsibility. Now that's being a clown i reckon.

the point is that you blokes came calling, you bloke makes made all the running and statements for a bloke with three years remaining on a contract. Its just absolutely laughable the level of incompetency shown by your club and that's what you have always failed to acknowledge.

keep wrapping yourself up in the security blanket that 2 firsts was paying overs and disregard how badly you guys performed and the lost opportunity of the trade period - say bye to lyons and say bye to any other trade move and even say bye bye to bring in any other dfa.

The great thing is i have moved on and totally rapt with the outcome. This is now like cream on a big choccy cake.

Keep dreaming young man - your clubs reputation as smart traders is in tatters.

wonder which player is going to trust the crows getting a deal done with dumb and dumber in charge - maybe you can swing hodgy over the line with a 5 year deal?

your clubs desperation for replacing danger with an established mid was shown up early with the leaked rumours about dusty and then the school boy attempt at getting gibba.

u gotta hope ur injury rate doesn't rise upto the industry average or that your older blokes maintain their form.

I don't think the crows made all the moves, that photo was taken outside of Victoria and not in Adelaide.

Bryce had a fair say in the majority of what happened.

No, you don't understand that board members are not involved in day to day operations.

You have been criticising how the Crows operated & hence criticising someone who wasn't even involved in the negotiations!

That makes you look like a clown!

Bryce approached us.

We offered what we thought was our maximum value.

You said no.

We move on.

It would have been grossly incompetent of the crows to give up 2 x 1st rounders for Gibbs. This is the bottom line you fail to comprehend.

Lol, the crows will continue to trade like everyone else. It's not like this is the 1st trade in history that has fallen over.

You are such a drama queen & given the posting, one can only assume you were desperate to get rid of Gibbs for picks to rebuild, as no other logical explanation for your behaviour.

Better luck next time SOS finding a gullible club to accept your ridiculous demands. ;)
