Personally, I would have a sub-website for every league that the AFL controls... womens league, mens league, NAB challenge. And then have a central website which cherry picks the various top stories from each site and displays it on the front page with links to the story on the original site.

Well now....... Doesn't that make for perfect sense?

It is usually best to follow up an opinion with a reason for that opinion.

In my case I understand for the reasons the two leagues being joined at the hip for now, but I also understand that the women's league would ultimately like to be a stand alone entity.
I think that's a good thing. Don't you?

Think we're at cross purposes - happens when you have posters on ignore and chunks of conversation go missing. I was talking about Roughy's captaincy.

I'm a system admin/webmaster/web application developer :) we think about common sense stuff like that. We should also have all the various state leagues as subdomains of the AFL website as well... so instead of trying to find the VFL or the WAFL websites out there for the latest (vague) news, we would just put vfl.afl.com.au in the browser location bar :) too easy really!

I see it all as being part of the larger whole.......at least from my interest level.

I don't venture into the state league sites too much but do have an interest in who is performing well, from all around the country.
Such a pain though having to go to the WAFL, SANFL, NEAFL etc sites separately, though.

Maybe the two (AFL & Individual State Leagues) don't care to meet, but if there were portals on the AFL site to have a quick look, I'm sure I would do so more often as I'm confident most of us here would develop at least a passing interest.

I think that the AFL has a say in the state leagues now... I would prefer to have a single governing body and all the various leagues reporting to it. The AFL is a league... but all the other leagues report to it as if it's the overriding governing body.

We could then have the Australian Football Commission (a bit like FIFA and UEFA) and then the national body (the AFL) and then the state leagues and other competitions (like the AFLW and NAB challenge leagues).

Problem is the landing page will become even more of a nightmare than it is now.

Better to work to take control of the relevant domains and connect them to the AFL and its CMS, ala the club sites.

The AFL CMS is a nightmare. It's something that Telstra and Big Pond have put together and is dated in that it restricts content to 980 pixels in width instead of making it scalable.

The landing page would have the top article from each of the subdomains and would have the league ladders on carousals.

Carousels are terrible for that amount of content, and you only have to look a bunch of other Australian news and sporting sites to know that none of them really know how to present the data (and their CMS' suck).

Plenty of work to be done all round, really.

The news articles wouldn't be on the carousel. I would just have the league ladders in a floating sidebar on rotate.

Not the SANFL. AFL were told to get stuffed when they wanted to name it AFL SA.

NO just NO!

NO just NO!

To be fair, I also met him a number of years ago at a players function. Came across just how HA described him.
However, none of that matters anymore now that we know the real Nick.
