Cripps Bontempelli Merrett Kelly - the next big 4?

I think we'll be seeing attacking footy return full time in 2017, and a lot of the dominant mids will be spending more time in the forward half than down back, leading to guys like Fyfe, Bont, Martin, Dangerfield etc. to be able to kick 25+ goals this year. Even Pendles kicked two himself.

They are great players. The thing I like about Trealor is that he's constantly moving forward at stoppages and just plows his way through with the ball. Always gains lots of meters. Unfortunately for him though he's not the best user of the ball by foot, and doesn't have great composure. Does just chuck it on the boot a lot. (Just my observation anyway, others could see it differently).

Bont didn't have the biggest impact in the middle but he was able to make up for it with two clutch goals. He'll pick himself up just like he did last year.

I think this year may be similar to last year for Bont, with his best being better obviously. After a limited pre-season again it will take a few rounds for him to really get going again. Can't wait for that though!

I think Merrett's easily better than Cripps now. One's seemed to improve his weaknesses and the other looks the same. Too early to make a definitive call though.

I don't like this easily better for describing the gap between any of them. I agree that Bont has clearly the best resume being the most influential player in GF side and therefore should be ranked number 1.

It's silly to let round one performances change my view, but I reckon Merrett is the man. I like Cripps because he's more unique but Merrett has that game-changing factor, and he's just so entertaining to watch.

I regret calling Merrett 'vanilla' after watching him tonight, but if I had to choose between him and Cripps I would still choose Cripps because of what he adds to the team at his best.
