I would suggest its likely as we have a crap load of cap space to play with to meet minimum TPP. Do I want to trade him Yes! Then both clubs supporters are going to have to sit through hundreds of pages over rating and under rating his worth depending on which club we support. Not at all looking forward to that TBH. That said, Do I think it will finally happen this year, No! I don't. My gut is telling me that this ship has sailed and he will see out his contract. Which is a shame as he is really our only player with any real trade value. Unless we are putting Cripps or our recent draftees on the table.

Yep. Give us Cripps and you can have our first and second. :) I hope the Gibbs ship has sailed, but we will see.

How much of a difference will he actually make? Which player is he taking the place of and what extra is he going to give? I agree it will be more than the player he is going to replace, but how much more? What if we lose that prelim or GF anyway. Then we are down a first round player for up to 10 years and we have an extra older player on big wages who was not good enough to lift us. I think the most important thing we can possibly do right now is hold our existing list together. I would be surprised if there would be enough money left over for Gibbs. I also don't want to be stuck with Gibbs draining our wages in 3 years time. Look at all the players now in their 30s with question marks over their names. I read Robbie Gray today in one of the threads, which is what reminded me to come over here and make a comment.

The only way I would want us to look at Gibbs is if we ended up losing one of our young players. If Gov or Lever decided to leave then I think the situation suits us bringing in a big player. I would be looking elsewhere first, Dusty, Fyfe, Rocky, Kelly, and then go for Gibbs.

Surely Gibbs in Mookay out is an improvement right there.

By next year Gibbs will be another year older. I hope the ship has truly sailed. Our gameplay relies on speed and fast skills. Gibbs does not have the speed anymore.. it will be like thommo past his best.

It'd be nothing like that.

Thommo has never had any leg speed AND he's in his 30s.

We still want gibbs. Reid wants to make sos look like a dumb campaigner.

SOS will have the last laugh if we do that trade. He is close to the edge of the cliff now. Not many players are performing past 30 in the current era. Now even Pendlebury is being benched for a quarter. Hawthorn has a half dozen examples of why we should stick to project youth.

We wont be throwing them a first rd pick anymore.

If we finish top 2 and our first is going to be 17 and upwards and we can still get Edwards, I would be very surprised if we don't give that for Gibbs.

I think it was Nick 'Mascot' Joyce.

Just part of the **** up that was the 2011 draft (Kerridge, Grigg, Joyce, CEY)

They did get brad crouch at pick 2.... really the only guys available post pick 28 (ex the rookie promotions) were jack newnes and lachie neale

I think Gold Coast should make Geelong pay. Cough up or Gary can retire. **** Geelong why give them a free kick.

Since he has a $1m contract with them next year, it's in their best interest to get rid of him and use that $1m on a younger player. They'll let him go for a late pick.

Ablett will move back to Geelong at the end of the year for a 3rd or 4th rounder. We won't be giving up our first.
Can't compare the two. Gibbs is five years younger than Ablett.

Our first should be anywhere from 15 onwards. I'd be more than happy to give that up.
