Interesting theory.

If true, Freo winning games would make it worse for him. Fyfe has indicated he will stay if he sees improvement. No doubt Freo have improved.

If Fyfe leaves he will be pilloried because the club appears to be turning their fortunes around. Being Captain adds another layer of complexity.

I firmly believe Fyfe has already made his mind up whether he's staying or going. I don't think Freo wins are actually that important in the scheme of things.
As I've said many times if what I'm hearing about Fyfe is true then a long term/big dollar contract combined with off field business opportunities may be just as important as playing for a club in a Premiership window. Also setting himself up for footy media career post playing days is important too.
That may be all rubbish but If it's true then a move east would be the smartest decision for him.
He has contract details in front of him from Freo and others and has had for a little while. If he's going to leave then he already knows in his heart of hearts.
Will be interesting to see which way he goes.

If our pitch to Kelly involves selling him on the prospect of a huge contract in 5 years time, then that's fraught with danger. Depending on how the TPP is balanced with other contracts, there's a real possibility that we may not be able to afford him/have to make significant sacrifices in order to keep him.

Seeing the seeds of a "mercenary for hire" relationship is probably not the best idea, especially when he doesn't seem like that kind of person (obviously money is good, but he seems to value many other things as well).

The Friday before the GWS game I gave us close to no chance at Kelly. The Saturday afternoon after the the GWS game I started to think we're at least in the game.
Norths offer stupidly good and one we won't get near but maybe Kelly and his management have been shown how much more he could make if he came out of contract in 5 years time as the best mid in the game.

And he is guaranteed not to be sledged by the nasty Sainters.

I think you're in with a big shot here, you would have to think the prospect of potentially joining a top 4 team on that kind of money is very enticing and then adding in the go home factor it makes it a perfect fit. Would fit in very well with your midfield imo, does anyone know if he's mates with Jack Steele?

9 years is a long time. Aaron Hamill had a 5 year deal, played 2 of them did his knee, never to return.

It was a fair effort to play 98 games in 2 years!

And it doesn't seem to have hurt the bulldogs that a player is overpaid. Most players realise you need to overpay to get them from another club. And iof a player is happy with their pay they don't seem to care what others are getting.

I wouldn't mind seeing the saints offer Jelly $1.2M over 5 years. When we compare that to north's offer, relatively speaking that's $3M less. Think it makes more sense for him to have a deal at the age when he starts qualifying for restricted free agent status. Should earn himself an even better contract than what is currently being offered, provided he continues to be a superstar. So theoretically, he would earn much more over a 9 year period with future contract extensions rather than the straight up 9 year offer from north.

Another point that tends to be brought up with Fyfe but not Jelly are the commercial and personal brand opportunities. Who would be more beneficial for Jelly from this perspective out of the saints and north?

If Billings was to ask for more than 650k we'd tell him to **** off too. Yes I know Kelly is better than Billings but the point remains

650k over 3 years is about fair for him with him getting the Fyfe level contract if he continues to progress at 25/26

He's playing at a level worth 800-850K ATM but as he's only getting better worth 1M+ for mine
