Especially as he's back playing for his school.

Really? In what capacity?

On the surface that scares me off somewhat as someone who took an interest in his final draft position. Fair enough in a bygone era when a player could be drafted whilst in year 11 ala Luke Ball and Dangerfield, but it now indicates either of two things.

1. He's a private schoolboy and has kept ties with the ammo team and is struggling that badly he's been demoted from VFL development league.

2. He was held back a year at some point in his schooling.

Neither of which is a particularly good outcome, IMO. No doubt there could be more to the story so I'm not dealing in absolutes and would love to know the context, but it doesn't scream "let's target him" to me.

He's still finishing school. Goes there 3 days a week, had been injured and St.Kilda asked special permission for him to return through the school comp. Quite rare in today's game.

I wouldn't bother looking. We had the chance to draft him and we passed. He's more a third tall than a KPP. Probably not we are looking for.

What a curious turn of events. Thank you for the information I don't know what bearing that has on my POV, but I'm less convinced about us not being interested.

We only passed once really and we can't be too sure where he was on our draft board because of the FS'. I think that's the sort of forward we should be targeting personally.

One thing I'm taking from the interest in May is that we plan to be heavy players in the trade period again. Unfortunately, IMO, the benefits of list chemistry remain completely lost on our list management group, sigh

Hey Sco,
Context is as follows;
3 days a week at school. Playing senior footy at Sandy. Haileybury and Carey have a very big game the same day that Sandy have a bye and 4 Haileybury boys playing Vic Metro. School asked special consideration of both APS and Saints for Battle to play. Saints happy as they want him to play as much as possible. School rapt. Carey happy as they don't want a pyrrhic victory if they were good enough to get the win.

I like Steven May but have no idea what he would cost us in terms of trade value. Having May would allow us to play Ben Reid forward which could solve our key forward issues in the short term.

If we could trade De Goey for May and a swap of some picks that would be a very good outcome.
If Fas wants to go back to Perth use him in a deal to get Darling?

We'll have absolutely no leverage on that trade. Fas for a single twisty.

We may have 4 of them but none of those other 3 you listed are in our best 22 at the moment.

I'd rather Moore stay forward, get a Tom Lynch type forward to stay with him, and an upgrade on Jesse White to chop out in the ruck.

Unfortunately we just can't seem to find that Leigh Brown replacement. Jesse White isn't the answer.

That said, haven't seen any of McCarthy so happy to be told he's the one.

Agree 100%. And really with the new CBA coming in $400k is barely above average, which would pretty much be the minimum expectation for a former pick 2 KPF signing his second contract.

Not sure the Lions would accept a pick outside the top 10 though, at least not by itself. I'd be comfortable enough if we ended up with a pick in the late top 10 to trade it for Schache, but if we end up with pick 5-6 again which is likely I'd be loathe to trade it out.

Average is rumoured to climb closer to $450k under the new EBA with suggested focus on improving the earnings for players at the bottom end of the spectrum.

Not keen on giving up a significant sum for the type of player he is (despite how good he is) when we clearly need a key forward.

Agree. Would need to start grooming McLarty as a forward in the VFL to see how he develops if we were intending to chase a KPD.

The development to go onto the next level just hasn't been there yet. Obviously the champs hasn't been played yet but the footy shown so far by a lot of them has been disappointing. The best KPF in Brander now looks like he will be trailed down back.

A lot of players seem to have also been moved from forward to back and even into the midfield and ruck. So no one is really sure where they will end up in the AFL.

I'm happy with that, means they'll more likely slide and we can hopefully grab a Grundy level player overlooked by everyone.

I often get..

Don't
Don't.....Stop
Don't....Stop
Don't..Stop
Don't .Stop, Don't Stop, Don't Stop........................:D

Doesn't count when you're home alone

Can May play up forward, because we have a far greater need for key forwards rather than key defenders at this stage.

Recruiting one of the best key backs in the league and throwing him up forward makes no sense. We'd be more likely to push Reid forward permanently if we got May, as he's successfully played forward before.

Where is the Anvil stat? I want to see the difference between the two in that category.

No argument from me there but I get a little annoyed that the old Leigh Brown role still get's trotted out and it's generally accompanied with a dismissal of others, like White, who've been played in that 3rd tall-ruck role.

Brown was a good ordinary footballer who bought some mongrel to a team that desperately needed it. You made the point that across their respective careers Brown played a bit of footy in defence. Equally, White has played more as the 1st or 2nd KPF and drawn the 1st or 2nd choice KPD, a role I can't ever recall Brown doing at the Pies. White stacks up pretty well.

Yeah I never meant they were all that different skill-wise, White is probably even ahead in that area. Brown just brought that intangible hardness that White has never had, which is what made him so important to that 2010/11 team and so much better than White.

If White had half the toughness and willingness to smash in to and hurt the opposition that Brown did I'd wager he'd be a fan favourite. Always loved watching opposition players shit their pants when they had the Anvil bearing down on them!

One of the real positives I saw in recruiting Dunn. He has that edge as well.

Steven May is probably the second or third best full back in the AFL imo

Great kick having him with Reid and Howe would be something Collingwood hasn't seen in a long time.
