Injured, Venables is.

The interesting thing is the board have actually had quite a lot of turnover over the years - it's actually pretty dynamic. The problem is they run it like the business people they are.

That being said, I actually find it quite staggering that a board that proactively turns itself over has allowed the management to remain so stagnant. And that's no comment on the influence of those people on on-field performance (although I think Gepp should be a million miles from the coaching box) - it's just an observation.

Agreed, I notice the only "football" person on the board is Nesbitt. A couple of further observations, most of the Clubs don't seem to have the CEO as a part of the Board & most have at least one "football" person (ex player) or someone who has been involved in elite level sport. It seems odd that we don't, as you say, being run like a business.

Unless he instructed them to stop trying to win contested ball in the fourth quarter I don't see why the players shouldn't wear the blame.

Simmo hasn`t addressed the 4th quarter fade outs all year ,is it fitness due to aging list or the gameplan ..

Reading this board these days has got to be more infuriating than when West Coast lose, especially this week.

Simmo is not the problem here. Yes maybe he could be "inspiring the players more" or "injecting some hardness into the team" (whatever that all means) but he is not the reason we lost that game.

If anything what he is implementing is getting us into a position to win and at times we look a million bucks but then the players go full Fremantle potato and lay down.

As it's been said earlier by I believe HoneyBadger35, Simmo did not miss that sitter like Yeo did, Simmo did not decide to play on whilst being in tackling distance of a Collingwood like Duggan did, Simmo did not forget to lay a shepherd for Barrass on the last line of defence like Hurn did etc etc etc. These are not coaching errors and for those of you who like to complain about anything and everything the club does and had a problem with Hurn saying that "it was the players not the coach" then uppercut yourself then delete your account.

So he gets the kudos for getting us into winning positions but not the blame when we roll over and lose?

You can't have it both ways.

Think about what you are actually saying here.

The recently-departed chairman was a dual premiership player at Swan Districts. It's a bit of a gap at the moment though. Appointing a football director is something they should definitely look at.

He has implemented systems and a game plan that would be winning games of football if not for the failings of players and poor individual efforts.

I know that Scott has been criticised in the media for it but ( being a old school former coach ) I loved seeing Brad Scott giving Majic Daw a massive spray over the phone.

It send an instant message to the player for all to see .

Would have been nice to have seen Simpson send the runner out to drag Yeo to the bench and give him a spray about being both selfish and lazy for neither running further into goals or either hand balling over to Kennedy if he drew the player and if he didn't draw the player the run in and kick it from ten - fifteen out.

For me there are so many coaching non negotiable fundamentals that our players don't adhear to and get away with: example our players hardly ever block or Shepard team mates they run along aside or in front screaming for the ball .... wanting the glory stuff.... Rather than taking out the opppsition player ....Yes Cripps , Le Cras and Wellingham I am talking to you ... But your not alone .. Just do it more often.

And it shits me no end when player turn their back on play as they walk back to take a shot on goals.

When I coached if a player committed three non negotiable in a game it was mandatory they got dropped the following week.

Would be pleased if Simpson showed some more assertive coaching moves and like his former Head Coach Clarkson read the riot act in the coaching box , at quarter breaks or over the phone to players.

The coach is not only responsible for the game plans and the systems but also the man management of players because players play football not robots.

Any failures by the players are the coaches responsibility ultimately.
One off incidents or brain fades happen but consistent fade outs and coughing up games we were in prime positions to win are the direct responsibility of the coach.

Whether you like it or not if it continues to happen Simpson will be sacked.

He either removes the players responsible or he is removed.

It's that cut a dried no matter how many posts you post to the contrary.

Who do you think out new coach should be and when?

Hurn was in our best yesterday and won the Glendinning Medal the previous week. Gaff's been in good form and had one down week when he didn't battle through a tag. If he wants to make a statement at selection there's better options.

Undid anything worthwhile with that pathetic effort in the dying moments of the game, the failure to lay a basic shepherd in that situation is unforgivable. Can you imagine a Selwood, Hodge, Viney etc doing the same?

Hurn was a good player with a lethal kick, he's now a bog average player with a decent kick. Your Captain doesn't have to be your best player, but he does have to set the example for others to follow and that was about as bad as I've seen from a senior player, let alone the captain of a footy club.

Can't just call out the players. It's a collective. The real test of gameplans and whatnot is when the game is on the line in the 4th, and everything is turned up a notch. Particularly as this failure has been a pattern.

Who were these young guys who were dropped?

Cole hadn't trained due to an ankle injury, the others who went out were Butler (inj) Masten and Redden.
On form and based on the treatment lecras and Cripps got MK should have been a straight in

Clear double standards for young players

I don't know who it should be but I'd make the move end of this year.

Clarkson would be good but we wouldn't get him unless we chucked a lot of money at him.

He should at least be given next year to turn things around. I look at the Dimma and the Tigers and over the years they have been in a similar position...And now they look like one of the 4-5 of teams capable of winning the flag.

He should be given this pre-season to make some big changes and see how next year goes, i mean we still have a decent nucleus of senior players and some young players coming through for our next push. To me 2013 it seemed we were in a worse of position but Simpson was able to turn it around.

Some changes:

Leadership group:

Captain: Shuey
Vice: JK & Gov

Leadership group: Name the rest after the pre-season to see who has really stepped it up, Would like to see Duggan in there though.

Delist/ Retire:

Lecra - Will be 32 next year. Has lot a yard of pace and his body is failing him.

Petrie - Been excellent in his role but he always knew he was only hear short term.

Mitchell - Would love to see him play with Nic Nat but we cannot rely on a 35 year old to win us game. It was almost like Simmo wanted him to get hands on experience with the team to see what he has to work with...I want him to be the sole mid coach with Cox back to ruck coach.

Giles, Mcinnes, Butler to hangup the boots or to be delisted.

Hill and Wellingham to be given one year deals and the used a depth. Both handy enough players so they should be kept for a year at least.

Trade Masten and see what we get. Also Mckenzie to go as a FA.

So far that is 8 changes and with that is 1391 games of experience gone ( a bit more once some of those players play more this year)

Priddis - To be told he will be used as depth as they want to give more time to Redden, Sheed, Mutimer, Partington & Venables in the middle.

My best 22 for round next year.

Hurn Barrass Shep
Duggan Gov Yeo

Partington Sheed Gaff

Karpany Darling Jetta
Cripps JK Rioli

Ruck: Nic Nat Shuey Redden

Bench: Lycett, Cole, Muitmer, Venebles

That's the problem. Like our midfield depth there's just not enough better coaches to choose from

I'm not the sort of person who espouses to this view.

Waiting for the perfect candidate is like waiting for the perfect wife. You will die alone if you do.

Making a change for the sake of making a change isn't always the answer. Look at Brisbane axing Voss, Gold Coast axing McKenna. The coaches they got to replace them weren't any better and they've languished ever since.m

Sometimes you're better off trying to make it work with the one you're with rather than throwing yourself back in the dating pool.

Gold Coast sacking McKenna was one of the dumbest moves ever made. If Gaz hadn't done that shoulder they'd of played finals, Bluey would still be coach, Matt Priddis wouldn't be a Brownlow medalist and we probably wouldn't be having this discussion.

Brisbane looks like they've landed the right coach now. Gold Coast might get lucky on their next one too.

The interesting thing about West Coast and Simpson though is that Woosha wasn't sacked, he raised the white flag and basically conceded that turning this core group of players into a Premiership side was beyond his capability as an elite leader and manager of men. Which despite being an absolute inditement on the senior players that has since proven to be entirely justified, meant that the circumstances Adam Simpson found himself in coming into the club were extremely unique. Usually a coach comes in and is starting fresh with a club that has probably just hit rock bottom. He's not just a breath of fresh air his vision and leadership and ability are things the club desperately needs, he's the most important man in the organisation by a long way at that point and that is something coaches thrive on. It wasn't really the case when Simpson took over. The Eagles had missed finals in 2013 but gone deep in 2011/12 and were ready to go straight back into the 8. He wasn't really hired to do anything but tweak an outfit that was up and running.

Woosha pretty much created a spontaneous handover scenario, more like the situation Buckley, Longmire, Goodwin found themselves in except Simpson wasn't on the inside and didn't have the advantage of intimate knowledge of the playing group as at Collingwood, Sydney, Melbourne. Consequently everyone got a clean slate under Simpson and he's wasted 4 years discovering the same things about the same players that Worsfold knew were beyond any coaches ability to change as far back as 2012.
