Wonder if we could get him for our early second and an upgrade of the swans picks.

I realise we have a few options in the hbf role, but he is an upgrade on any of the lockdown defenders we have. Provides very good rebound as well.

2) Jones was drafted at pick 14 iirc, and his stocks certainly haven't gone down this year. They would want a first for him.

Are there any young/underrated KPDs not getting a game that could be gotten on the cheap? Obviously hard to pry away decent KPFs, but a solid defender can sometimes slip through.

Allir Allir has been mentioned, any others that come to mind for those who watch state leagues closely?

Hold fire on free agents, trades and mature agers, and do not re-draft any delistees.

Draft eight 18-year olds (including at least two 193cm+ key forwards) in the National and Rookie Drafts.

That is a pretty good list. I reckon 8 draftees is a couple too many though so I'd keep Keefe and Ramsay for another year, maybe Crocker too. The rest are cooked.

Agree with most but Varcoe and Crocker aren't going anywhere. Especially Trav, I think the club will ask him to sign on for 1 year deals due to his body and fitness etc. Crocker is still very young and is showing great signs of development so not sure what/why you'd have him off the list so quickly.

Not sure why you're super keen on Cox being upgraded to the senior list either, his year has been rather disappointing, it's been 5 years now and he has major floors in his game that don't help him at AFL level. Easily exposed. Agree with Thomas and Schade however they both deserve a spot on the list.

IMO, you're coming at it the wrong way. I feel like the best way for us to approach it is to acquire guys that make the incumbents depth players, but there are three names that spring to mind that fit the criteria you provided.

Jack Leslie, Aiden Corr and Sam Collins could all come in as of next year and be capable of holding down a role if required with scope to improve. Are those types really improving us? Probably not, but they do offer some coverage.

It's an interesting discussion. I consider guys like Dunn or Mackenzie the ideal bridging solution to take the hits whilst McLarty and whomever we draft over the next two years develop their game. Guys in that 21-24 range that can fill a role, but will hang around for 5-6 years don't really improve you all that much. The older guys bring experience and a teaching edge with them.

From my perspective the goal should be Goldsack either forward or not offered a contract for 2018. There's a couple of reasons behind it. The first is that despite having a career year he's still only an average at best KPD filling a hole and second the opportunity to have McLarty getting experience in the senior group whilst Dunn is still playing will be invaluable. I think 10 games at senior level within the same structure as Dunn will teach McLarty as much as he'd learn in a season without him.

If we bring in one of the three I named there'll be an obvious temptation to play them ahead of McLarty. I don't think there's an easy solution because we're so poorly coached, but drafting a developing our own with an improved FD is definitely my preference. This off-season is an opportunity for us to own our position and set in place the proper foundation for future success so I hope the club aren't seduced again by the quick fix cough Lever cough.

He's not as quick as he once was (due to age and injury), and his "clean ball use" is negated by the fact that he barely touches the thing, and has a knack for selling teammates into trouble by dishing off handballs to guys who are under the pump. He doesn't kick goals or create for others anymore, he's a clueless defender (always a step behind his man or the play), and his tackling has dropped right away. He basically just does a lot of useless running and sheepdogging around packs these days, reminiscent of Chris Egan once upon a time. The idea of what he should be is much greater than the reality at this point, and it seems like we're perpetually waiting for him to get his body right and produce good footy, and I just don't see it happening. I'd rather put the same time and patience into someone younger, with more potential upside.

I've seen nothing impressive from Crocker either, and don't really think he has the potential to be anything more than an average 13-15 disposal, 1-1.5 goal a game half forward. That being said, I'd rather put the time into someone like him than Varcoe. If he stays, Crocker is one of a number of young guys on our list who I'd like to slap on 4-5kg of muscle this off-season.

This season Varcoe has been injured abit but when in and playing consistent AFL footy he's been a beast especially earlier this season with his physicality around the pill. You're basing your arguments off how many disposals a player gets Varcoe has never been a big possession player, when right he adds grunt simular to Greenwood.

Comparing Trav to a Chris Egan.. I'm not going to even bother.

Crocker is coming along fine for mine, unfortunately he doesn't have a set position yet but does have good goal sense. I'd be persisting with him. He's only 20 for Christs sake.

Cox, yep well then delist. Apologies got my figures wrong there but he's kicked 23 goals in 17 games, doesn't offer any presence up the field and needs to go. Will be 27 before next season starts, time to move on.

I would upgrade him to the senior list only as ruck depth. We're kidding ourselves if we think he'll add value as a KPF long term, but he's AFL standard as a ruckman. What concerns me is that he's our only real option below Grundy with Lynch 2-3 years away from offering anything of value.

If we found a way to bring McGovern and Reid in it would at least relieve the possibility that he'll be used forward beyond 2017. With those two we immediately get support for Moore and keep our 1st round selection which we can afford to then use on best available without trading up.
