He said he won't be risked. He was still on crutches yesterday, but has apparently improved since last week, so given it's Viney, he'll be given until the last moment I'd have thought.
Ahh fair enough. I think Goodwin will leave him out. With the Pies depleted midfield we should be able to win clearances without him, giving him 3 weeks to get right if we make finals.

That being said, Brisbane's clearance work was great against us and Viney is our best bull for mine. Might need to play him to make sure we see September action.

Yeah I was thinking early yesterday, if Viney was playing we'd be doing it a whole lot easier from the middle.

Viney will be touch and go because it's Viney. Otherwise I could see him being ruled out early, with the thinking that he'll be much better for 3 straight weeks off, rather than one off, one on, one off etc etc.

I am already really nervous about this match. I didn't think I would survive the week, but I remembered that since it is against the Pies, I get to go as a guest of a random MCC member (Collingwood supporter - but generally okayish to behave on the day). This is good because it means I can, and will, get very drunk before the match begins so I might be able to get through it without a breakdown.

I would like us to play Watts. This doesn't take into account form or structure or whether we are really really tall. I just like Watts.

Really nervous about this match too as Collingwood aint a bad side. Geelong just got over them last week. Worse case scenario if we loose, West Coast have to win easily to make it in the 8. If we do make it, hopefully we dont play Sydney first final as they always flog us. We will have more chance against Port.

I think the odd outcome out of all of this is we need to barrack hard for the Suns.

If we win on Saturday, and Port and Sydney win as expected, we need to barrack hard for St Kilda to beat Richmond, which is an odd feeling, actually wanting St Kilda to win.

Yes, but you also want the Suns to keep in touch with Port so that Sydney push up on percentage.

Out: Wagner , Stretch

In: Salem , Watts

Salem is obviously better than Wagner, and Watts to come in and play off the wing and half forward. It's his best position when Hogan is in the team. Get him back to being the third tall forward and delivering it inside 50. Hopefully he has done enough to freshen himself up and get some touch in the VFL.

With Wagner playing predominantly wing in recent weeks, I'd like to see Watts come in and play that role. In Plapp's VFL review he mentions Watts played in the midfield and had an impact, so I'd throw him on the wing against the Pies.

As a Suns and Dees supporter, I will be barracking very hard for the Suns to win this weekend! Win-win for both clubs.
Cool username!

Welcome to post on the board more often :thumbsu:

If we'd beaten Freo and north twice we'd be 2nd...
Can't complain too much about Freo when they also beat the Dogs, Essendon, and Richmond in that patch, and it was our first game without Gawn. Losing to North twice still staggers me.

I think the Richmond game is the one that got away really, so unlucky to lose it.

I agree, it's the only game all year I didn't get mad after the loss (Well, along with the Swans game).

Are we too tall with Hogan/Pedersen/Watts/Gawn/McDonald brothers?
I don't understand why people insinuate height is a problem? Is it because taller players are generally slower?

There's always exceptions but as a general rule they tend to be slower, get tired quicker, can't run as far in one hit, less capable of repeated sprints, are less agile when the ball is on the ground or trying to tackle, evade etc

Ahhh ok, thank you.

Personally I don't think Hogan or Watts need to be considered in that equation if that's the case, as both of them are pretty fit/agile/athletic.
And one of those talls listed is our ruckman.

Oddly enough, despite having a tall forward line, we are horrible in the air.
