where are the people at who wanted Lever to be the next captain? The guy is a liability every week and barks at everyone else.

Looking forward to him tugging on Membrey's jumper 5 times when there's 20 guys sitting under high balls this week. should be fun.
Not sure anyone wants him to be captain. More that there is literally no one else at the club with any leadership qualities after Gawn and Viney have retired.

How is the worst player on the field yelling at people leadership though? Jed Adams could literally come in and do the exact same thing.

Lever has horrendous footy IQ and game sense. I've played sport with guys like this. And just because they're yelling doesn't mean they're right. Most of the time they're just a space cadet that is banging on about something wrong.

I mean Lever doesn't even know the rules, like against North when he smacked into a guy with frontal contact and didn't even turn his body and then argued with the umpire. So we've got a 'leader' who doesn't even know the rules giving instructions to others.

My post wasn't pumping him up as a leader at all. My point was more about how bereft the club is of leadership after our captain and vice captain, but obviously you just want to vent about your pet hate. Carry on.

yeah, sorry, I'm still in Rick rage. Yeah, not too many short term leaders. I think Gawn will be captain for 3 more years and who knows, if a guy like Turner kicks on, solidifies his spot in the team then his attack on the ball and courage in the air would make me a good candidate.

Turner's not the worst shout but would need to really cement his spot in the team. Not sure what he's like at training but could be someone the club could look to groom for the role.

Outside of him, only Lindsay gives me a vibe of being a really natural leader and much of that is just from the confidence he's shown as a player as well as when I've heard him speak. Tholstrup, also has great body language on field and speaks really well but he'd need to turn into a decent player. Both of those guys wouldn't be ready for the role for 4-5 years either way.

Agreed. Not sure Trent Rivers is captain material either. I mean, maybe. I'd like to see him making better decisions though. So waiting for Lindsay would be ideal.

For a captain or VC, Melbourne needs a Libba type (except with more mongrel).

If Gawn retired tomorrow then Sparrow would become captain.
It would, without question, be Viney if Gawn retired tomorrow lol

I did. I'll put my hand up. This was a couple of years back. But not now. He's dropped off a cliff and is an absolute panic merchant. Can't have a leader that panics and makes mistakes constantly, we need someone who leads from the front. He's not best 22 on current form.

From this Melbourne supporters perspective the Saints was probably the most depressing game of the year.
I have a suspicion that the C-wood game will be worse.
We have a bunch of players* who need some attitude readjustment and they aren't going to get it with the current coaching staff.
The big question: The goal differential at quarter time?

* We all know who they are.

The decision to make Viney co-captain was made by the coaching staff, rather than a player vote. Reporting at the time indicated that the players had unanimously voted for Jones to continue as sole captain, but the coaching staff, led by Goodwin, decided to implement a co-captaincy model, introducing Viney into the role without consulting Jones first.
