Oliver is so overrated, 2m handballs aren't impressive
The fact that out of the top 10 in disposals he's second in contested possessions (only behind Dangerfield) and second in clearances (only behind Dangerfield and equal with Martin) suggests his two metre handballs are the ones extracting the ball and getting our game going.

EDIT: Oh and second in disposal efficiency...

Bont shouldn't be in the 40 for mine, Reckon he's a chance for the team as well lulz.
Agree, his last 3 weeks was poor after he worked his way back into AA contention when we went on that run of 4 wins in a row.

That being said, imo JPK and Selwood are reputation selections themselves

Would have Oliver, Duncan, M Murphy and Beams ahead of those guys

Also 2m handballs are better than 1m ones.

When you're surrounded by 3 tackling opponents in the middle of a pack, getting any handball out is actually impressive.

A joke of a non-selection, but I stopped caring too much about the All Australian award a while back.

What the AFL would wish the team would look like from this 40 -

FB: Lever, Rance, Howe
HB: Docherty, Hurley, Hibberd
C: Treloar, Selwood, Kelly
HF: Gray, Franklin, Bont
FF: Betts, Daniher, Walker
FOL: Kreuzer, Dangerfield, Martin
INT: JPK plus 3 Victorians

As many Vics as possible as well as the interstate favs like Buddy, Betts, Walker, Gray, JPK etc.

Got to say I'm sick of the victorian bias with them not selecting Talia.

When will the AFL admit this is a national comp.

David Mackay robbed yet again

If you don't rate Oliver you're not good at football.

He's no. 1 in the league for ground ball gets, no. 1 for loose ball gets; no. 2 for hard ball gets, 2 for contested possessions behind Dangerfield; 4 for tackles; 2 for stoppage clearances; 5 for total clearances; 5 for total disposals; top 10 in the coaches awards at the end of round 21, PLUS he's just had the most handballs in a season ever.

He'll obviously round out his game by kicking more goals and kicking more in general play (he's a very good kick), but he was definitely worthy of the squad and is an exceptional talent having played 3/4s of the season as a teenager.

Minus- Sloane
Add- Josh Kennedy (Syd)

Other then that, pretty good

Only 2 Tigers in the 40 despite finishing 3rd and only one game off top spot......

In 2013 we finished 5th with 15 wins and didn't have a single squad rep. Perceptions die hard.

But in all honesty the only other player I thought should definitely have been in from Richmond was Cotchin. To only have a single squad selection (in his Brownlow year) is not an accurate representation of his career.

Seeing the squad, this is my stab at the team:

FB: Jetta - Rance - Lever
HB: Yeo - Hurley - Docherty
C: Kelly - Mitchell - Crouch
HF: Zorko - Franklin - Greene
FF: Betts - Kennedy - Daniher
R: Ryder - Dangerfield - Martin
Int: Laird - Sloane - Merrett - Kruezer

How can you walk straight with that massive chip on your shoulder?

He played in the NEAFL all year.

I agree, though. AFL left him out of the squad because of the cocaine scandal, not because he's our 6th best KPD.

Surprised Skipper did not select Lance Armstrong
