Generally if an injury is genuinely career ending and the salary was not part of a restricted free agency bid then the AFL will waive the salary cap implications if the player is not able to play.
Pretty certain thats what they said with Buddy wasn't it?

Saw mentioned somewhere that ch7 was reporting that Daisy has been offered a 1 year deal and will play on and that Gibbs has sat down with the club and informed them that he won't be seeking a trade and will play out his contract.

#bluemour

This was from Tom Browne on channel 7. However he didn't say that Gibbs said he wouldn't be requesting a trade, just that he didn't request a trade.

I don't think people realise how much cap space we have free at the moment. If the Tigers can afford to pay Martin 1.2m for 7 years and still have Rance, Riewoldt, Cotchin, and Prestia on big money we'll be fine.

Yep, been saying it all along....the massive problem we have is we have to pay 95% of it.

Honestly, that is the worst rule in the history of rules in a 16 team competition and I would argue its actually a noose around clubs necks on the lower half of the ladder which is now completely evident with free agency.

Kelly is worth every penny you can muster hopefully be a Blue. I feel very confident about Chris Judd's professionalism as Director of footy operations things will improve faster.

I am not so sure Judd is any better than any other fabulous ex player that has failed. Look at Voss etc. But I agree, he will be professional- but does he have the aptitude- remains to be seen. I had heard a few years ago, that he was going away from football once he retired to pursue business interests. Now he is back

Judd deal was fine. Everything else around it was crap [emoji90]
Yeah like our crummy recruiters who picked up nothing at the draft table and left Juddy to carry the team while Murph, Gibbs and Kruezer were still learning their craft!!!

Wouldn't have thought most players would want a 9-year contract. As much as it provides security, it also severely limits you. Five years is plenty of time. Heaps. Plus it means you get to reassess what's happening in line with new collective bargaining agreements, adjust to changes in the AFL climate and more freedom of movement in the future if required. There's a reason super long contracts like that are the exception and not the norm. I doubt any of our other young gun players will be put off by us getting a player on that sort of contract, nor will they start requesting the same.
Except if the Tv channels start negotiating the tv rights down. Which is bound to happen sometime. Then the pie gets smaller and the players share gets reduced accordingly

I hope that's not true. We need to build for 2020 and beyond and Gibbs won't be part of that.

Unless Adelaide are still being ***** I'd imagine that we'll try and talk him into going considering how hard we're willing to chase after Kelly.

Happy for Daisy to hang around another year.

Earned it on merit.

Daisy is a quality person and a great mentor. Perhaps more importantly he has experienced a rebuild to premiership cycle and would be able to provide vital feedback and reinforcement to the younger players about where we are heading. You need someone outside the coaching group to be the conduit of these types of messages. His playing performance justifies a contract as well. He will never be the Daisy of old, I have never expected that. Now that his new contract reflects that we are getting good value for money

It's a rule from the AFLPA. They want players getting paid as much as possible
