Unless the round starts the weekend of the 24/25, it ain't going to happen - if the round starts Thursday, 29 March then it'll be Haw v Geel on easter Monday.
The season might actually start a week or two earlier, get four rounds in and then have a short break during the Commonwealth Games. I doubt channel 7 will want to have their coverage of the games and the AFL overlapping.

Monday May 7th 2018 is a public holiday up here in Queensland. Maybe the Lions or Suns could use the Sunday Twilight or Evening to their advantage.

At least say to the AFL, if you gonna give us a Sunday Twilight might as well be when there is a day off the next day.

I know we have requested the Hawks in round 1 but wouldn't be surprised if we were sent to the new Perth stadium. They wouldn't open it with a round 1 Derby and think they will try to get a big drawing Melbourne club there v the Eagles

I was thinking this too

We both finished top 8 and then there's the Worsfold factor

Would be a pretty good choice for the opening match

Weve just sold out AO for a finals match and AFL will schedule us for fridays next year.
Every victorian franchise wants to play us for the exposure.

Great idea, and a pretty common-sense move. Sunday twilight is a pretty average timeslot so any slight opportunity to boost it should be taken. I definitely wouldn't mind it so much with the Monday off.

I am genuinely curious as to what the AFL does with the Suns as no metricon until about round 10.
I believe they are going to play a game each in Cairns and Townsville. They may play a few of the bigger teams e.g. Collingwood, Essendon at the Gabba.

Maybe this time the AFL won't give the hardest fixture to the Lions.
I know RIGHT!

Every game was against a club that finished higher than you. Nobody else had to put up with that type of draw!

What is the likely opener for the new Perth stadium?

Sounds as though it will be a West Coast game.

v Sydney would be a nice rematch of those recent GF's

If it were v Crows, I'd try to find a way to get over for it.

Crows would be good. Grand final rematches always go down well.

Shotgun start to round 23. Make it happen. I posted this in the like hate learn thread. Imagine the excitement between stadiums as scores flash up on the big screens 'around the grounds' style. It would be huge.

This is what I would do, given stadiums, and any possible intriguing battles. Foxtel could put on extra channels like they have in the past for big sporting events, and 7 could also utilise 7mate.

Round 23
All games begin 6:45pm EST Saturday night
Sydney v Hawthorn, SCG
GWS v Western Bulldogs, Spotless Stadium
North Melbourne v Fremantle, Blundstone/UTas
West Coast v Melbourne, Perth Stadium
Geelong v St Kilda, Simonds Stadium or whatever its going to be called next year
Richmond v Essendon, MCG
Carlton v Port Adelaide, Etihad
Adelaide v Brisbane, Adelaide Oval
Gold Coast v Collingwood, Metricon Stadium

Can we keep this thread for real fixture news not people taking wild guesses.
