Geelong Vs. Richmond - the match of the ultimate underdog...

Yeah nah - its best for Richmond, because they are hoping their weight of fan numbers can sway the umps at the G. It is the only way they can hope to win.
surely a p1ss take?

Yeah I understand that I think the heart of the issue is zero advantage.. Obviously it's a grey area, but it's understandable why Cat supporters are annoyed..
Cats members should've got access to tickets before Richmond supporters...
it's not a home and away fixture, afl has responsibilities to all fans of all clubs, even if travelling interstate.

I remember the 1967 GF and more importantly I remember the First Semi final defeat in 1969. Eight goals to Richmond and two to Geelong in first qtr..and Geelong kicked the first 2. Richmond went on to kick 25 and Geelong 7. A 118 point slaughter. So don't give us any of this underdog BS. Two teams run out and one will win. You are going coz you hope to win but even if Richmond win you will be none the wiser as to future prospects. Geelong have been ordinary in recent finals and therefor it is Geelong who are the underdogs.
think you've had one too many sherries gramps.... the consensus of fans, experts, and bookmakers have geelong as favourite.

you are not an underdog. please jog on.

Sooking is what Richmond do best.

have you read this thread?

Geelong can not be serious wanting to play at a ground to give us the best possible outcome to win finals??

did you kick up a stink last year? when you played sydney and hawthorn at the g?
did simmonds give you the best advantage in 2013 - the only time in recent memory you played a final there?

in fact, id like to know how many finals, have actually been played there?
and more importantly, why is it an issue now, it hasn't been in the past?

There is an argument that the ground has now been sufficiently developed to the standard that would be expected of an AFL finals venue and that if it was in any of the other AFL states, no-one would have a problem with it hosting finals.

However, to expect the AFL to hold finals that are going to crack 90K comfortably in Geelong is pretty fanciful. And it was never an issue for Geelong to play 'home' finals at the MCG when it was a juggernaut in the 2007-11 period. There's really no excuse for not being able to play finals at the MCG. If your team's gamestyle doesn't hold up there, that's a fundamental flaw.

the most balanced post i have read.

unfortunately, the redevelopment seems to have forgotten one whole end of the ground, the end to which geelong kicked in the last quarter (standing room end), opposite end of the jumbo tron, is a disgrace, ridiculously outdated toilets, no permanent food or beverage stands, poor access in and out of the ground.

i don't care if that's only a small section of the ground, you just can't host big finals there, its not there yet.
get the capacity over 50, and the WHOLE COMPLEX into the 21st century, and i'd be happy to head down there every year, and for finals.

Geez you're a princess. Don't go, it won't bother Geelong fans.

No. Have you even read your own board?
i do, frequently, but don't generalise, it's unbecoming ;)

precious or accurate? there is a reason the only home final you've garnered down there, is fremantle...

Have you missed the entire point of this thread? A Richmond supporter is explaining how Geelong just don't lose to Richmond. You don't need to come in and brag, it's already been clearly stated. Every side has a bogey team and Richmonds bogey team has gotta be the worst of all.

The positive for Geelong could be that if we do lose to you and the tigers can beat their bogey side, then hopefully we can come out the next week and beat our bogey side in the swans, should they win of course.

Its been the year of upsets after all..

Definitely precious. You won't go to a suburban ground with outdated toilets. You probably pay $180 for flannel shirts too.

Stop taking the play on and then dropping the ball when tackled. Nearly every single one of those frees was for holding the ball.

Besides the 7 or 8 that were for out of bounds on the full that is.

Its funny they complain about their free kick differential and not getting free kicks for their awesome 'tackling pressure', then complain when Geelong (who lay the most tackles in the league mind you, as well as give away the most frees in the league) get free kicks for laying more tackles. Its outrageous.

Home state advantage? So no advantage in finishing 2nd over 3rd. Good job, AFL.

Always has been home state advantage. Two Victorian sides play each other at the MCG like they have done since 1897. Geelong/Richmond get a home state advantage in week 2 and/or 3 when they likely play the Swans or GWS as it'd be in Victoria. They need a proper finals ground if GWS get a home final. Spotless is too small.

Geelong supporters would tear the place down if it was at Kardinia Park as 40,000 members would be unable to get a ticket. Some still missed out this time when it's at the 'G.

One final is sample? Of course Geelong won't to host it at Geelong

Why? What did your club do to make your fans deserve it?
Please, that's the most idiotic statement. So your team gets a final against say a collingwood or west coast in Perth or Sydney in Sydney. Home side gets first day to purchase all tickets so your teams fans being the away team which could be a matter of a slightly lower percentage gets no access to any seats for the game at all? Should that be the same way for the grand final as well? I know you cats fans are an insular little bunch down in sleepy hollow and don't like sitting next to opposition fans, however what you are suggesting is ridiculous and would never happen. Anyway prepare to know what it feels like for an opposition fan visiting geelong at the g next week as we dwarf you in the stands.

So nothing, then, other than have more fans. Good job.

Yeah, its not an advantage to Geelong. Home state final, which we may as well be playing interstate, for all the benefits it gives us.

whinge whine sook
Clearly, you haven't thought your argument through. No whingeing or whining in my statement. That's what the Tigs and Hardwick did instead of admitting they got beaten by a better side a couple of weeks back. It worked too - look, you got home final advantage that you don't deserve and your players couldn't earn.

Don't worry you'll get what you deserve next week... coming to the g or is the big city a bit scary for you?

What a melodramatic post.
You play at the MCG multiple times a year. You host MCG home games. You host MCG finals.
Don't compare it to an "away game". That's just ridiculous.

I am hoping we do given that we earned favouritism, we deserve to beat your blokes. What has Sydney got to do with the G? Melbourne without its CBD is Adelaide with crappier urban design.

We certainly will. I don't know what everyone is bitching about. We get to play a team that can't win a final against anyone, let alone a team that they haven't beaten at the G since 1999. We should well and truly waltz into the prelim, with or without half our team.

If we lose, well I suppose we will just blame it on umpires or something. That seems to be the go to excuse. In reality, if we can't beat Richmond at the G, we aren't a serious final contender anyway.

]Don't even try and give me the whole "but it's not Geelong's home ground" crap either. The rules state they earned a home state final and that is what they are getting. Other Victorian based teams have had their final moved the G and in my eyes Geelong is being treated exactly the same, which is to say that this ruling on the venue is not unfair to them at all. If that's a problem then they should be fighting the rule itself and not it's application.
Yep, they have only earned a home state final as per the rules. And it's up to the AFL's discretion on where that game is played within that state. So of course they'll disregard the fact that Geelong have a home ground that is more than capable of hosting of final (including night finals), because maintaining the integrity of the competition comes 2nd to revenue and crowd attendance figures.

No, its not. Haven't figured out that Geelong is NOT part of Melbourne, yet? Also, did you hear the entitled whingeing going on when your mob had to play a H&A game at our home ground? You are sitting in a glass house.
