Because after the last couple of weeks. Collingwood cant call themselves the biggest sporting club in Australia.

Already Adelaide and West Coast have their measure in my opinion and sometimes Essendon.

But Richmond last night created the largest one sided atmosphere in afl history. Collingwood have not done this.
That's kinda silly. Richmond didn't choose the PF matchup at the against a new interstate club with little Melbourne support.
What they did though was turn out a huge passionate crowd, and that's kinda footy at it's best.

I don't think say, 94,000 of the 95,000 crowd were Tiger fans. Neutrals/others sometimes watch games their teams aren't in, so I'd say a good 15,000 at least serpent part of the Tiger Army. But 80k is still a huge turnout. It's no secret the Tigers have one of the largest supporter bases.

Richmond did sell out the entire mcg though.

I was actually going for Freo in 2013, but I hated Hawthorn too. If Freo were in another gf it would depend who they played against. They're not my second favourite nor least favourite team, but I admit a sadistic satisfaction in knowing they've yet to hold up a premiership cup.

there's a massive difference between how the two rivalries are promoted in the media. WA has a respectful rivalry but at the same time promote WA footy and footy sides. SA on the other hand has a piss weak mentality and prefers to shit on itself and eat itself up.

I feel WA footy was built with the support of the WAFL where the SANFL was an ugly self centered organisation full of old men tugging on their self importance. Once this importance was challenged, they turned in on themselves and the negativity was born.

There are plenty of Eagles and Dockers fans who hate the other team, and it can get ugly at times, but there are plenty who support WA as a whole, whether both our AFL sides, the WAFL etc. Dunno how it is in SA, but the rivalry between the two has led to some fantastic Showdowns. The fact Port has a long pre AFL history probably factors in as well.
