Along these lines, however i would rather get their 2018 first then this years in that situation.

That kind of doesn't make sense.

So pick 5 and 2018 1st for Hogan and their 2018 1st?

I don't think many clubs would swap future picks. It makes assumptions and the assumption here is that Melbourne will finish higher then Fremantle next year. No club would gamble like that.

Ok I'll entertain Hogan stuff.

How about first round downgrade and next years first?

So 5 and 2018 1st for 10 and Hogan?

Gives us a chance to grab a reasonable mid at 10. Sure we lose 2018 1st in a stacked draft, but Hogan would be worth whatever we were hoping to pick up in 2018.

If it also takes a Balic? Why not.

Thoughts?

No chance. Next years draft is stronger than this years but with Hogan in our 22 we'll play finals in 2018 so it effectively becomes a straight swap of pick 5 for Hogan. Melbourne wouldn't go for that even if he was out of contract.

So wouldn't it be nice to have early picks in a stronger draft?

Any scenario not involving two high first round draft picks going net to Melbourne for Hogan is unrealistic.
Really any scenario is unrealistic.

Fair enough.

Pick 5 and next years first probably wouldn't get it done.

All suggestions are based on whether he wants to walk out and has a clause etc to do so. If that's the case it reduces the amount somewhat.

Isn't Hogan out of contract after next year? If so Melbourne will lose the only power it haves. We'll be there again in November next year if they are asking too much this year.

Pick 5, 2018 1st rounder + Balic.

For Hogan and 2018 2nd rounder.

Melbourne's 2018 2nd rounder + Crozier's pick to GWS for Wilson.

Pick 55 to GC for Matera.

Out: Pick5, 2018 1st rounder, Croz, Balic
In: Hogan, Wilson, Matera.

We can't swap out this years and next years firsts because we need to use one based on the trading future picks rules. We must use 2 in 4 yeates. Which means we must use one this year or next.

The Hogan rumours are just that. Rumours. I won't even begin to speculate until either him or his manager confirm something. Every journalist is just taking a stab knowing it'll attract clicks, therefore revenue. Just let it go, you'll only end up hurt like Saints fans.

Pick 5 , Balic and next years first for Hogan and Melbourne's 2nd rounder in 2017.

The only way I see any deal involving Hogan working is
... if Lever nominates Melbourne and then
... if Adelaide stick to their guns re 2 1st Round picks and then
... if Melbourne can't get a second 1st Rounder from some other trade (eg Watts) or can't/won't give up a future 1st for some reason and then
... if Melbourne decide they still really want Lever
... then we are in play for Hogan
And in this scenario, it is Melbourne who are paying overs for our #5, not us paying overs for Hogan
I don't think this will happen

That rule doesn't come into effect until 2019. It was clarified during last year's trade period when Geelong traded another 1st rounder.

The other scenario is if Hogan actually does want to come home.
