I really hope Reid is not wasting time trying to negotiate with SOS on this. Gibbs is not worth anymore than pick 16 at the most.

Thats fine. Because you guys are blindsided by the fact that in 5 years time when you play finals you will lack the depth in your starting 18 and your list to compete.

To give you an idea of how poor your list is, our list is in better shape and with a better future and we are still in a premiership window.

Given the last decade you have to assume in 5 years Carlton will be one year into their next 5 year plan to get back into finals

People who call Carlton's list poor don't really understand what we're building. Cripps, Doc, Curnow, Weitering, SPS is as good a young core as any in the league. We'll play finals in 2020.

It looks like the pitchforks will be out for Justin Reid no matter what here. Either the pays the 2 firsts for Gibbs or we don't land any players. I really can't understand why we havent had a plan b & c here. Surely 2 firsts could get us a look at some other decent contracted midfielders? I maintain that our picks this year will not help us in our current window. AFC need to decide to either go hard on the top up or go the other way and look to move up the order next year for elite SA talent.

Hypothetically, if Carlton lose Gibbs and perform in the "Carlton way" we could still land a top 20 pick coming back our way next year.

That would mean three top 20 picks in 2018.
This is why I don't mind the 10/12 & 16 for Gibbs & 2018 2nd.

It bolsters our 22 in 2019, but also gives us some great picks to build for the future.
As everyone has pointed out a draftee this year is unlikely to impact in 2019, so get Gibbs who will, and load up on draftee's next year in preparation for 2020 & beyond.

If we steal pick 12 for Cameron (he is nowhere near worth that), this will make up for paying overs for Gibbs. You simply cannot win on every deal, especially when trying to pull a 2-year-contracted player from another club. It's about the sum result of a trade period, not just one trade (unless you only do one, of course).

If our trade period is-:

Out - Lever, Cameron, Pick 16 (Gibbs trade), 2018 R3 (Lever trade)
In - Gibbs, Pick 12 (Cameron trade), 2018 R1 (Lever trade), 2018 R2 (Gibbs trade), 2018 R4 (Lever trade)

Then, that is absolutely fine.

Negated - Pick 10 in for Lever, out for Gibbs.

p.s. Charlie Cameron interview coming up on Trade Radio.

That's what you said when you had Kreuzer, Gibbs, Murphy etc.

"They know we're coming".

You're equally as likely to be in perpetual 5 year plans.

Go inflate your tyres elsewhere. We don't care about your list.

Come on mate. For starters you are assuming you are keeping your small group of talented players and remain injury free etc. Shit happens. In addition the top 5-10 players at every Club is decent its the depth of the team which is the biggest issue.

I think around 2022 is when you will play finals. Its ok, its only about 5 years away and then another 3 years possibly to compete for a flag. You guys havent been in a prelim since the last century correct?

We had plenty of plans, but none of them came off. Same as last year.

2020??? You got teams like Richmond and bulldogs winning premierships and your only planning on playing finals in 2 or 3 years?

Except that SOS knows what he's doing as opposed to Rogers. Both clubs can be big winners from a trade.

Hang on so we lose pick 10 and pick 16 for Gibbs?

Funny how Carlton supporters though that Kreuzer would amount to something.

Jeez you guys have botched so many high draft picks. Feels sad to be a good 17 year old player knowing that a shitty Club like Carlton could be drafting you.

I maintain the fairest Gibbs trade last year was our first rounder but we had to select them and develop them as if they were our own only to hand them over to Carlton for free after three years.

Fair value to both parties.

Not trying to stir the pot here but Gibbs, Crouch, Crouch and Sloane would be close to the best midfield in the competition. Flag opportunities can be few and far between and Gibbs would be an enormous upgrade on someone like Douglas as good as he was this year. 10 and 16 are unknown quantities and you would get an A grader who has the potential to play another 5 years. Almost seems comical that you're not willing to bite the bullet.
Are you a used car salesman by any chance ? Why don’t u just keep him and we will keep 10 and 16

As a few people mentioned, their 2nd is likely to be in the early 20s so it will mean little.
