Perth Stadium (Optus Stadium)

To play devils advocate, is there really that many pubs and restaurants nearby? The casino would be further than most venues in Subiaco.

Secondly I don’t mind it if there’s a taxi rank that taxis pay for and an Uber rank that uber pay for. To me that makes sense. Im unaware of that but if that is the case I have no issue.

There should however be a location to drop family members off.
They are building pubs and restaurants nearby as part of the precinct.

Ahhh ok I did forget about that one on the river, but is there other venues?

AFAIK there are no pubs and restaurants currently being constructed in the area (other than the renovation of the old Burswood Park clubhouse). I think it's more a long term plan to build eating and entertainment venues along the river side.

Stadium ticked off for approval by the ICC.

Cricket’s international governing body has described the $1.5 billion Optus Stadium as one of the most “impressive” in the world, lavishing plaudits on the venue ahead of its official opening this month.

With Cricket Australia today expected to confirm the stadium’s fitness to host top-flight cricket matches, it is understood the International Cricket Council has heaped rare praise on the facility.

ICC match referee Richie Richardson, who inspected the stadium late last year, is believed to have filed a report with cricket and State Government officials recommending the venue be accredited for international matches.

To host cricket at the stadium, the WA Cricket Association will use drop-in pitches curated at Gloucester Park — a method in line with other major sporting arenas including the MCG.

In his report, Mr Richardson says the 60,000-seat venue on Burswood peninsula “is by far the most impressive and well laid-out stadium I’ve ever visited”.

“It’s comprehensive amenities along with the quality and the functionality of the facility surpasses the required standards to host any international cricket match,” Mr Richardson wrote.

The comments from Mr Richardson come as the stadium prepares to host its first official cricket match on January 28 when Australia plays England in a sold-out one day international fixture.

While a “family open day” is expected to see more than 100,000 people stroll through the gates as a curtain-raiser, cricket could also feature next month at a domestic level if the Perth Scorchers make the finals of the Big Bash League.

Such an outcome would offer a windfall for the franchise, which sits second on the BBL ladder with five wins and one loss.

Ownership of the stadium was officially transferred to the State through its events arm VenuesWest on January 1 after builder Westadium, a consortium led by Brookfield Financial and John Laing, completed construction weeks ahead of schedule.

Overall, the stadium cost $1.46 billion, including $400 million for a train station and transport links.

Parts of the stadium’s precinct are unfinished, including the Camfield mega pub that will sit next to the venue and the trouble-plagued pedestrian footbridge to East Perth.

The Government says the bridge will not be finished until May, or two months into the AFL season, after setbacks in the project’s delivery and a blowout in its cost from $50 million to $83 million.

Unsurprisingly, people want the option to get an Uber to Optus Stadium

https://thewest.com.au/news/wa/uber-hits-back-at-optus-stadium-ban-ng-b88710423z

Uber has hit back at a decision not to allow its drivers near Optus Stadium with a survey showing three-quarters of customers want the service to be allowed to operate in the precinct.

A survey of 1134 people showed 72.2 per cent want Uber to be able to drop off and pick up passengers near the facility, with the remainder saying the service should not be allowed to do so.

The West Australian revealed at the weekend that Optus Stadium has banned Uber and other ride-sharing services, as well as private cars, from dropping off friends and family close to the stadium.

A cab rank next to the stadium will allow registered taxis only, as the stadium seeks to reduce congestion on the Burswood peninsula and to promote public transport.

The closest private cars will be able to get to the stadium is in East Perth, near the pedestrian bridge, though some streets in the vicinity will be closed on event days to accommodate shuttle buses.

An Uber spokesman said the company wanted a drop-off zone reasonably close that would be safe and convenient for passengers.

“It’s clear the people of Perth want all transport options to have access to their stadium, including ride-sharing options like Uber,” he said.

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said it was important to prioritise the limited space on the peninsula for buses.

“The survey results does not change the unfortunate fact that Optus Stadium is located in an extremely constrained site with very limited private vehicle access,” she said.

“Due to the limited access, the single road in and out of the Stadium will be prioritised for buses which will carry thousands of passengers from suburbs like Karrinyup, Morley, Ellenbrook, Mirrabooka, Hamilton Hill, Canning Vale and Bentley.

“Regarding other areas outside the Stadium precinct, ride share operators such as Uber are free to negotiate with whoever they like.”

Only premium ticket and ACROD disability services accredited cars can park at the stadium.

Am I correct in assuming that if the Scorchers get the right to host a Semi-final and/or Final then there is nothing stopping it being held at Perth Stadium?
Only the potential for it to be scheduled on a weekday at peak hour?!?

Already confirmed

WACA board member Tom Percy confirmed on Facebook that if the Scorchers secure a home final it will be played at Perth Stadium. I'm expecting even the mid-week finals which start at like 4.40pm will sell out which will be an interesting test for Stadium operators and transperth.

Hopefully they end up hosting the final. Has it been confirmed at all if from next season BBL08? That they will move from the waca permanently to Optus Stadium.

Yes. They would have played there this year, but it wasn't finished in time.

What does this even mean? How is this any different to any other Radio broadcaster who broadcasts from a stadium?

They will have priority rights and probably priority access for events at the stadium 12 months of the year. And they will probably develop stuff we don't even know about. Who would have thought you could make money out of a TV show about U/18 footballers 20 years ago? But Crocmedia had a crack and its proved profitable.

You can get an Uber to the East Perth race track then walk across the bridge. That's going to make for some interesting parking in East Perth.

Thats a 6 lane car bridge behind the knee deep bridge.

Should have been a bridge from the other race track over the freeway.
