**** me, garbine is god damn beautiful. Hopefully she can get through with her injury issues. Not the best day to be out there with such concerns

Sharapova-Sevastova
Djokovic-Monfils
Del Potro-Khachanov
Medvedev-Chung

Have the most faith in Del Potro-Khachanov and least faith in Djokovic-Monfils. I could see Court 7 having a few topsy turvy epics if conditions allow.

On hot days, the Sydney International regularly gets to around 45-50 on court. Audience must take breaks in the shade after each set as well.

The horrific 2009 bushfires (west melbourne was 48 degrees) were on the day of the women's final (which by then had moved to evening finals I believe). The Junior Singles/Doubles finals were on RLA and Margaret Court respectively. I hope those MC Doubles finals for the juniors were later in the day, that would have been murder.
The fires were a week after the AO, but the heatwave was well and truly underway, something like 10 days with heatwave conditions in a row

I dont think anything can top 2014, you had 4 of the first 5 days played in 40+ degree heat including a 42 and 45, even the aussies on the outside were playing to empty stands. Surely that particular year must have had the lowest total crowds in the last 10-15 years.

Interesting, Nick is playing doubles today... Hopefully it's a quick match

I notice De Minaur was due to play doubles with Duckworth but has pulled out. Not surprising given the way he was struggling the other night.

Aside from Nick our other men seem to be injured or in less than stellar form. I wonder who will get the second singles berth for Davis Cup in two weeks time.

I went the first 5 days that year and had the best time of the last few years at the tennis. I could get on to any court, except RLA. No 'event' fans to battle, no lines, fair ground pass prices and each night matches went til after midnight.

Is humidity ever a big issue in Melbourne ( in general ) ?

Not generally, no but you can get the odd humid day. Humidity doesn't usually coincide with 40 degrees though. It would have been much more humid in Sydney and Brisbane the last couple of weeks but no matches were cancelled there.

He is out of shape and in no way Singles match ready. Don't stress, Ebden is playing good tennis and Millman, kokkinakis and de minaur are all fighting for the 2nd spot.

I was only joking, no way I want to see Groth in the team

I think Ebden has earned it personally. De Minaur will struggle to be fit and Kokkinakis and Thompson are out of form IMO (or maybe Kokki has fitness problems, not sure). Would go for Millman after Ebden. Ebden is a good doubles player so could play doubles with Peers if need be.

My money would be on either Kokk (if fit) or Ebden for the 2nd spot.
