Free Kick to McGovern

Because he got a shoulder in the face?

It's accidental so nothing to worry about MRP wise but 100% a free kick.

What was bogus was the free at the other end where a Collingwood player with his head down ran into a stationary crows player and was awarded a free kick for high contact. Now that's a bogus free kick.

I'm still at a loss to understand how the umpire thinks he can call a free kick on this. MCGov come off second best in a good contest.
What was even more astounding was that the commentators were questioning whether he'd be safe from a MRP perspective

Clearly if you choose to bump and hit your opponent high you are liable for a free kick and/or MRP sanction, but this was simply a case of two players clashing in a low contest for the ball.

An Adelaide supporter complaining about free kicks awarded last night?

The umpiring was great in the first quarter when they seemed to let the game flow, but there were a few dubious decisions and 50 metre penalties in Adelaides favour in the second and third that kept them within striking distance.

Wasn't the only soft free kick paid tonight, both Lynch and Kennedy got dodgy ones and the one paid against Nic was ordinary.

Free every day of the week as he was hit high. Sure he contributed to it but he wasn't deliberately leading with the head in order to draw a free but rather got himself in an uneasy position going for the ball but arriving a bit late.
Same category as an accidental trip- no intent but the umpire will pay it regardless.
No issue with it and should not receive any MRP attention.

A Melbourne player ducked under Henderson's legs and then stood up leaving Henderson riding him like a bull. Called a free kick for Melbourne.

One of the more unusual calls.

That said, overall the game wasnt too bad for free kicks. The AFL has told umpires to pay a lot more forward 50 free kicks so that we can see more goals kicked. That will take a while to get used to.

That free that you refer to was atrocious and lead to Melbourne's only goal after qtr time.
